This Defensive line gives the Jags a shot at winning the AFC south this year

I know it's early but the AFC south is by far the weakest division in all of football.  The titans and the texans. look to stink and the only real contender we have is The Colts.

For people who don't know, the colts offensive line is just horrific.  Andrew luck has took a major beating the last 2 years and I am surprised he hasn't gotten majorly hurt.

Of course I am not saying this on one preseason game.  Marks was playing great last year, Andre Branch is improving, and Chris Clemons was a monster before his injury(looks to be totally healed)  Combine this with the Jaguars solid db play and it's a good spot to be in.

Yes the offense does suck but lets not forget that defense wins championships.(manning, brady, and bellichick can attest to that)  I believe the AFC south is wide open and this line gives us a good shot.

On a side note this line is also good for Bortles development. Practicing against this dline with our bad oline will get him use to facing pressure real quic.

I think you're getting ahead of yourself here. Defense may win championships, but you've got to have an offense too, and with Henne or a rookie QB I'm not walking in with anything resembling expectations of a division championship.

A good defense will win you more meaningful games than a good offense.  Steelers, Ravens, Giants, can attest to that.   A good defense beats a good offense anytime.

The browns are not in the AFC south and to be fair, they have a very good defense, so they don't stink.  The texans DO stink offensively and defensively, and are in the AFC south.

So I fixed the above for you.

So why were the Texans and Browns so terrible last year?

well, give the Jags this.....they look way better than last years preseason D.

I think we have a football team this year Gentlemen.

Win them all? Nope.....but enough the'll make a good accounting of themselves.

And 2015? That should be one hell of a year!

I'm willing to bet the texans have a top 10 defense again this season.

If we do win the division, the more important thing is that the Colts did not.  This is the year where all the pressure is on Luck.  It'll say a lot if he falters.

They have the best shot they've had in years. Not that that's saying much.

Indy is still the clear favorite, and Tennessee is always weirdly competitive in some form

Good point.  I meant to say Texans instead of browns.

I am not basing this off of just the preseason game.  This defense was playing well at the end of 2013. The increase in speed, clemons, depth behind marks to rest him, is going to make this defensive line a force this year.  The secondary also played better in the 2nd half of the season so I can only expect them to play better with a pass rush.

We will have a better grasp on how good our Defense is Thursday against the Bears 1st string Offense. If we wreck havoc on Smay Smutler the whole time he is in the game then im completely 100% sold on this Defense.

It's possible but it all depends on Clowney.  JJ Watt maybe the best DE in the league right now. If Clowney can draw double teams away from Watts side it's pretty scarey.

it's even scarier when they line Clowney up next to Watt.

A DL playing at a high level would certainly put us in division contention.

However, I don't think we'll know how good it's going to be for a few more weeks.

Typical of this time of the year, defenses looked much better than most offenses for the most part... and they should.

You don't see good coaches trying to run up scores in preseason, so higher scores in preseason are more of a red flag on offensive coaching than it is a defensive worry.

our D shut watt down twice last year remember?

They'll handle them again.

Im willing to bet they will be in the bottom 10. Texans will win maybe 2 games this year.

Texans had the #1 defense last season, didn't they?

Anyways, I won't go that far to say we will win the AFCS south, but I do believe our defense will keep us in games, and we might be able to win 6-8 games. I think we will be much better on defense and on special teams, but our offense has a long way to go. The offensive line worries me.
