Tony Boselli vs Walter Jones
|
Congrats to Walter Jones making the Hall of Fame. But let's be real here, Boselli was a better player than he was. I can't help but feel a little down every time one of these Left Tackles of the same era inducted while Boselli watched because he had a shorter career.

Heard on the radio that one of the guys talked to Tony about Walter Jones.
When Tony was asked about Jones, Tony himself said "He is better than me." This is via 1010xl.

Quote:Heard on the radio that one of the guys talked to Tony about Walter Jones. That's about what you expect. I don't imagine that would change much
Definitely think Tony would have easily made the HOF if he played 10 years.

Read somewhere Jones was called for holding a mere 9 times his entire career. That's one of the greatest stat lines in the history of sports.

Tony's a humble guy. I don't think he actually believes that, but the fact is Walter Jones is being inducted into the HOF and he isn't there yet, so for Tony to say he thinks he's better than Walter Jones would more than likely cause a lot of ill will to be sent his way from outside of Jax.. I wish he had a longer career (even if it would have been with the Texans) so he could be recognized as he should. But OTOH, you know if he had had the lengthy career that Walter Jones had, the media would focus solely on his career in Houston... at least now, when the day comes where he is recognized (and I believe it will) he will be known as a Jag
10 years ago we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs..... Please don't die, Kevin Bacon.
Still cant figure out how Dwight Stephenson makes the HoF but Boselli can't.

And while we're at it another argument can be made about Andre Reed vs Jimmy Smith. Smith's numbers are pretty close to Reed's, even though Reed has about 3 more seasons on Jimmy.

That's correct. 12 year career, 9 pro bowls, 9 holding penalties. Quote:Definitely think Tony would have easily made the HOF if he played 10 years. I think so too. He was too dominant not to put him in. The only thing keeping him out is length of career. Quote:Heard on the radio that one of the guys talked to Tony about Walter Jones. Jones listed Tony in his HOF Speech. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Heard on the radio that one of the guys talked to Tony about Walter Jones. Humble.... But not buying it.
My impression when watching both LT's is Walter Jones probably was slightly better at pass blocking but Tony Boselli was a better run blocker. Both are all-time greats. You can't go wrong with either player.

There are so many WR's and RB's in the Hall. And the stat explosion in the "modern" era is really going to keep guys waiting. Andre Reed is part of a truly remarkable team that just couldn't win the super bowl.

I did find it interesting that Jones mentioned Tony among the great OT's that played when he did during his speech... I'm sure Bruce Smith agrees...

Not sure why people don't get it....
If Tony had played another 5or 6 years or so at the same level he did for the bulk of his injury shortened career, then he might have been a HOF player. As it was, he isn't. Seattle fan here I know nothing of Tony but I can tell you Jones was the best LT Seattle ever had and one of the best I've seen play he earned his spot in the HoF. He simply didn't get beat you can count on one hand the sacks he gave up in any single season.

Would leave guys like Bruce Smith without even registering anything at all on the stat sheet.

Didn't a punter get into the HOF this year. The hall is tainted now. Might as well let HOF Practice Squad guys in now.
