Jaguars Preview - SI.com / MMQB

#1

Don't know how many of you read Peter King's MMQB (within SI.com) but writer Andy Benoit is reviewing the AFC South. Today (Wednesday) is about the Texans. Tomorrow he reviews the Jags.

When I saw 'If Chad Henne falters, throw rookie quarterback Blake Bortles into the mix early and often. It’s the only way to learn on a team that will face sharp growing pains'

I almost closed the tab down. However despite this i carried on reading.

I think he's massively harsh on Gerhart, calling him 'so-so' where I think he can be a genuine 1 man rb in the league and will likely finish top 10 in yardage this year.

I also think he was a bit harsh on beadles, yes he's not a world beater but he's definitely more than 'underwhelming'.

Asides from that, he's right about the receivers, spot on with the dline and it's nice to see Poz and geno get a bit of love.

Thanks for the heads up Adam, though I disagree with a few points it's nice to read an article where the guy tries to do at least a little bit of analysis as opposed to just going along with what everyone else says Wink

A fairly accurate written article and synopsis of the team in my opinion.  He is pretty harsh in Gerhart's and Beadle's mediocrity, but we'll find out on the field shortly.

This is like the 3rd article on the Jags I read that said that Sanders had a disappointing rookie season.  Am I crazy, but doesn't 50+ catches out of a 4th rounder when the offense is terrible, at least qualify as good/intriguing or am I drinking the teal kool-aid?

Most people say that a rookie having 50 catches is a GOOD year.  I'm also curious when I see people dismissing Sanders' rookie campaign.

51 rec...484 yards...9.5 avg...1 TD on a horrific Jags offense.

Huh

Yeah, they seem to think he was a top 15 pick.  At least this guy said he had a disappointing start to the season, but that could be said about anybody involved with the team last year.

And since when is Gratz destined to play the slot?

No mention of dear Robinson.

<p style="margin-left:40px;">9.5 yards per catch, sucks.

I agree with you.  51 catches is a lot for a rookie WR.

It's true, however, we have to remember that he had Checkdown Chad as his QB for most of the season, so most of those YPC were probably run after catch.

I think most people thought of him as a return specialist first and foremost.  In that regard, he was underwhelming.  Overall though, he was far from a disappointment despite the low ypc.

We can pick apart the details but the over riding theme is what's important. Our arrow is definitely pointing up and people who know football know it.

Agree about Gratz too.  I always wonder if the writers know something we don't (as in we can't look at it objectively) or if they have no clue.  I tend to think it is the latter more often than not.

The comments about Beadles is spot on. He was supposedly terrible last season.

Yeah agreed, his teammates and the Denver fans spoke very highly of the guy.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

FWIW.. pro football focus does a decent job of analysis and they have not been high on Beadles either. Denver had one of their top rated lines last year (in part to their system and that Manning guy) and called him the weak link. They call him a so so guard who is a better pass blocker than what we had (stop the presses), but who is average at best in run blocking. He only had one season where he rated as a "plus" guard in their rating algorithm. I am tempering my expectations for that unit. They are unproven and could be downright awful. Toby won't be able to do much if the line plays similar to last year. Hoping that group can gel and show signs of improvement. A nasty line can take over games. A timid one gives them away.
Only a chump boos the home team!

That is validation? I am sure you would find the same here about Blackmon. Oh wait, look on the main page.
