Double TE?

So in my mock drafts I absolutely hate how the drafts fall if i'm in the top 5 of the draft so i'm still working on that,

But i think if i'm a position 6 or later and jimmy graham is there when i pick, that I'll take him Go whatever RB is left, then take the Gronk is the 4th for my flex when he's healthy if he's expected to only miss a week or so.

Was wondering what your opinion would be, for an example on how I've been drafting... After round 11 was just auto picks i'm using to fill in with first round receivers and Bishop Sankey and Terrance West if they're not picked

Please don't post mock drafts where some takes Kellen Moore in the 1st round and then follows it up with Johny Manziel in the 2nd round.

This is a league I would like in....Moore/Manziel. Wow.

Yeah I got distracted by rickyspann blatantly throwing the league.

Truthfully I'm not sure about graham but I understand the logic, Arian foster is a gamble but he could seriously pay off. I don't like the Fitzgerald pick at all, especially since if I rember jeffery was still there?

I feel you definitely for a steal with Gerhart and applaud you on that as he could be a difference maker for a 6th rounder, other than that pretty good, I like the pick of Ryan and crab especially since he's on a contract year.

despite the one guy doing troll picks the thread is about a strategy to give an idea on how I'm drafting, not everyone else.

I see what you're saying, but if you look at what the cards were doing towards the end of the year last year, and now that they have an entire season and then some in their offense I think his numbers will go up. Not to mention he was injured most of last season, But I also took Floyd later on as a security deposit.  The guy ended the season with 1k+ yards so he's one of my breakout players.

I understand picking the top TE's but I don't think I could pass on Brees. Dude did someone troll your league? Some of those other picks are asinine.

Taking Floyd over Patterson is about as dumb as it gets. Also Zac Stacy over Monte Ball?

It's just the ESPN mock draft stuff, more to get a feel on where people are ranked so some are trolls yeah.

Monte ball has fumbling problems and was benched multiple times last year.  NFL.com has him losing his job this year because of his fumbling probs.

And Floyd had a 100 yard season last year and is looking more and more likely to take over as the cards #1 receiver this year.

Considering Kellen Moore hasn't thrown a pass in his first 2 NFL regular seasons and he's in a battle with UDRFA James Franklin to be the Lions # 3 QB,  I'm surprised that Moore was even considered in FF.    I stopped playing FF a number of years ago but I'm confident in saying that he will be available as a Free Agent in at least 99 % of the leagues around the world.

Yup. They were "troll" picks. Idk if you followed the interactive mock draft on the forums a couple months ago, but Jungle Cat was doing the same thing in there. Mock drafts are suppose to give you a feel for how the actual draft will go, but Jungle Cat would make outlandish picks and throw off the rest of the draft. Kellen Moore isn't going to be on any fantasy rosters and Johny Manziel isn't going to be a Rd 1 or Rd 2 pick. rickyspann = Jungle Cat.

I'm not sure about this. Hillman was benched a couple times for fumbling. Ball had a couple fumbles but im hoping he will be the lead back for the broncos this year.

While I certainly wouldn't take Johnny Manziel as high as Round 2 if I was playing FF,  at least from my viewpoint it's not as noticeable of a bad pick than Kellen Moore would be in any Round.   Let alone Round 1.  Manziel has a realistic chance of starting one or more games this season.    I'm not sold on Manziel as a long term solution but he could easily have his moments as an NFL QB.   Including in FF,  because of his ability to run for TD's and put up sizeable rushing yards.

I probably have a more favorable opinion of Kellen Moore as an NFL QB than most Lions fans.  Yet, his chances of being a significant factor in FF in 2015 are probably no better than 5 %.   As you know,  it would at the very least take significant injuries to Matthew Stafford and Dan Orlovsky for Moore to even have a chance to see the field in a meaningful situation in the regular season.   With the new coaching staff not being around when Moore was signed as a UDRFA in 2012,   Moore needs to have a strong summer to hold off James Franklin. G.M.  Martin Mayhew didn't exactly give Moore a ringing endorsement earlier this off-season.

In essence,  rickyspann made it too obvious that he is a troll by selecting Kellen Moore in Round 1.

I think he'll be given every opportunity to lose the starting job, but like stevan ridley I would put my money on him not holding on to it because once the League knows you have a fumbling problem, they make sure you continue that problem.

On a side note, If we could get back on track to the question of Two TE's and less on the one dude that trolled the first two picks from a strategy standpoint I'd appreciate it lol.

The league we play in is a flex league so i'd be able to have both TE's in the line up at the same time.

With TE's becoming more and more of a receiving position,  the strategy of starting two TE's seems to make plenty of sense.   The key of course is finding the right combinations,  including supporting cast and expected opportunities.

One thing that caught my attention in the mock FF draft you posted is Lions 1st Round pick Eric Ebron wasn't taken.  Especially since he was pick # 10 of the entire 2014 NFL Draft.   The plan of the Lions seems to be to use Ebron as a Jimmy Graham type of flex-TE / slot receiver.   Joe Lombardi,  the former Saints QB coach,  is the Lions new Offensive Coordinator.  Even when Brandon Pettigrew is on the field as more of a traditional TE,  Ebron is expected to see plenty of action.   With red zone specialist Joseph Fauria also in the mix,  it's hard to predict what the FF numbers are going to be for the Lions 3 TE's.     Especially with a new coaching staff.

I was actually thinking of him, But then i remembered they have joseph F(can't spell his name) and he was really coming on late in the season last year, so I was thinking maybe he'd have a cameron jordan style breakout year before they drafted Ebron. So the two TE options kind of scare me when it comes to detriot, BUT. if they do like NE did with Hernandez and gronk, then It could totally be viable.

The other little note about Rookie TE is I can't remember the last one that produced numbers good enough to be a flex in their rookie season :S

A quick question.  When is your draft scheduled for?   When I played FF,  I preferred the later the better.  Especially when it comes to injuries and what appears to be the depth chart of a team coming into focus.

From your perspective as a FF player,  would Gronk's 2010 rookie season qualify as one in which Gronk would have been a viable FF flex option?   I believe Gronk had 10 TD's that season,  with his catches in the low 40's.   Overall though,  it does seem like most TE's don't hit their stride as receivers until at least their second season.

If you would consider rookie TE's,  one additional TE that probably be worth keeping an eye on is Jets 2nd Round pick TE Jace Amaro.   While Amaro played in a spread Offense with Defense not exactly being a strength for most of Texas Tech's opponents,   Amaro's numbers last season jump out.    I can picture the Jets using Amaro along the lines of how the Lions likely will use Eric Ebron:  as a flexed TE/ slot receiver.   Much like with the Lions re-signing Brandon Pettigrew to a multi-year contract,  the Jets re-signed Jeff Cumberland.   The latter probably will be their primary traditional TE.

In general,  I think it's well worth considering taking a 2nd TE relatively high in your draft if you see a good opportunity.   This will give you leverage in case your top TE is dealing with a significant injury.   Not to mention the bye week.    If both of your TE's are relatively healthy and don't have a bye,  then you have the luxury of starting both of them.    Unlike WR's in which there seems like an endless supply of options in FF leagues that have 12 teams or less,  that's not the case with TE's.

Our draft will start the latest it can, I think it's scheduled right before or after the last pre season game so most of the lineups we have to draft off will be finalized.

I really like the three TE's that came out and i Think with the way the Bucs WR core is now, that Jenkins could also be a sleeper TE pick since last season their TE was quietly having a really good season fantasy wise.

At the moment there's Five TE's that I would consider taking in the top 4, Graham Gronk Davis Thomas and Cameron, But i think Davis if his holdout goes into training camp I might pass on because historically people who skip training camp don't' do as well the next season.

From a sleeper standpoint, which is getting ruined by NFL.com Ladarius green of SD would be a latish round pick as well. He was pretty dominate last season when he came in and he might Supplant an aging gates this year.

But realistically, If you get a top TE in the flex position and a Top TE at your TE spot its usually more consistant than a running back

I like the idea of pairing two stud TE's together.  I have been doing it for several years now, every since I played only one RB and paired Graham and Hernandez together back in 2010 (I believe it was) every week and did very well.  You can usually get a top TE who will produce more points than the RB's left in the 6-8 rounds.

The pick of Graham in the 1st was good, but no way you take Foster over some of the other guys left in the 2nd.  I think I would have paired Graham with his own QB, Brees, in the 2nd, and waited on the other TE.

1. TE Jimmy Graham

2. QB Drew Brees (will be gone in the 1st in my league)

3. WR Alshon Jeffery

4. WR Pierre Garcon

5. RB Toby Gerhart

6. RB Bishop Sankey

7. WR Torrey Smith

8. TE Greg Olsen (going to be a stud this year as Newton's top target)

9. WR Cecil Shorts

10. RB Pierre Thomas

11. Best available DST

If I can't get Charles, McCoy or Forte in the first, my strategy is going to be to wait until rounds 4-6 and target the RB's I listed here and double-up on good TE's.

I think a better TE prospect for the bench anyway would be to grab Green from SD. there's a good chance he takes over as the main pass catching TE their and gates is relegated to blocking and some route running.  As for Bree's he's a second rounder in the league we're doing, but Foster looks promising because of the fact he's not going to be in a committee like almost every back will be this year.  Also Sankey in my league will be gone at the top of the 4th late 3rd at the latest.  My friend and I tend to think alike in that regard.  Another RB to look at late is Terrance west from Cleavland.  Tate is never healthy and i think he ends up getting beat out.
