I believe that's the third owner death this year. May he rest in peace.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

RIP. At least he had a succession plan in place.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Always sad to hear of a passing, Would never say I was a Bucs fan but hope the best for their franchise heading forward.
I lived in Tampa when he bought the Bucs. He saved the team. The original owner, Hugh Culverhouse was dying of cancer. He and his heirs were ready to sell the team off to Peter Angelos and they would be moved to Baltimore following the 1994 season. I was at the last game of that season, Bucs vs. Green Bay. It was a sell out (rare for Tampa) and the fans were basically saying goodbye to the franchise. A month or so later, they were sold to Glazer who would keep them in Tampa. The next decade was great for Bucs fans. Rich McKay and Tony Dungy turned them from the laughingstock of the league to playoff regulars. Then they brought on Gruden, who delivered a title. The last few years have been a mess but they look to be heading in the right direction now.

Quote: He has been ill for quite some time. I remember reading about how Lamar Hunt transferred cetain percentages of the team to his son every year to limit the tax burden. And by the time he died, his son was majority owner. |
