The comments are funny to me...saying that they are wrecking his confidence by putting him at #3 on the depth chart.  In almost any position other than quarterback, you are not annointed a starter.  People act like quarterbacks have no fire and cant take the pressure of competition.

I don't know if he will be good, but its not because the GM said the current starter is better than him at this point.

A seasoned veteran QB should be way ahead of a rookie QB that skipped his final 2 college seasons.  Despite that,  it wouldn't surprise me in the least that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam made the decision for the Browns to draft Johnny Manziel.

A veteran NFL QB vs. an ad libbing college phenom shouldn't be a close competition.  Manziel has much to learn to become an NFL QB, if he can at all.  It's a good thing they sold all those extra season tickets.  It justifies the decision to draft him for now.  When he's still on the sideline later this season, those new fans are going to be hard to find.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

This is dumb.

It's a shame they lost their WR. It would have been nice to see a team breakout after so many bad years.

What I wnt to know if he's so much better than Manziel, why did they draft him?

Manziel is not gonna develop all that much into a better QB, you have to let him be himself and get better at doing those things.

Hoyer is still not "substantially better" than Manziel (or Bortles and Teddy).  Hoyer was a guy they claimed off the street after getting cut twice.  He only started 4 games in his career.

and Manziel has started 0. Hoyer is probably infact playing a lot better.. Maybe in time Manziel will be better but we shall see.

I like Hoyer, but this story is basically a GM attempting to answer a really dumb question.

Hoyer is no better than Henne.  If Manziel can't beat out Hoyer, Haslett better buy a lot of crab legs just in case...

has anyone seen that insane lawsuit/restraining order against manziel? Idk if its real but its pretty crazy. I was surprised there is no thread on it yet. Just for the laughs I recommend reading it.

Yeah, he's better than the mistake that was Brandon Weeden, but I didn't think he was better than Campbell. Just as the situation with Bortles-Henne, I fully expect Manziel to beat out a QB who was cut twice and only started 4 games.

I agree he is better than Weeden but I don't think Hoyer is as bad as you think and as of righ now Manziel is 3rd string so he's gonna have to earn it.

how many times you are cut and how many game he has started arent indicative of how good he could be. when given the chance he had that team looking good on offense. if you want a qb to start 1 game in the nfl right now and you tell me i can have a healthy hoyer or manziel who has never played an NFL game in his life, id take hoyer every day, and twice on sundays.

manziel could still wind up being a total bust. hoyer has had limited success and is still fairly young. manziel should enjoy riding the pine if hoyer is healthy but who knows, the browns clearly dont make all the smartest decisions.

when it comes down to it, some hobo will probably determine who starts anyway.

Agree.

Plus, I don't think he's concerned at all.  He's confident and cocky, and why shouldn't he be.  He takes the pressure off himself by simply winging it as he goes.  Study the playbook?  Learn to read a defense?  Forget it, let's roll!  Life is good for JohnnyCircus.

Every time I hear the name Brandon Weeden I think of that underhand pass he threw against the Lions.

It wasn't pretty.

Wait? Minus the extra sold Browns season tickets, what is the difference in Manziel on the sideline later in the season, and Bortles on the sideline later in the season behind NFL QB Henne? Are you saying the Browns fans are supporting Manziel buy buying season tickets better than we are supporting Bortles?
