Running backs plan to skip bowl games for draft preparations

(This post was last modified: 12-22-2016, 12:31 AM by JaguarsWoman.)

Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey are the big names here, but Baylor RB Shock Linwood also decided not to play in his team's bowl game. Naturally, the decisions by these three players sparked some controversy nationwide, with some people criticizing them for skipping bowl games and others saying it was a good decision

Will this become a trend for junior draft prospects? Will it help, hurt, or make no difference either way?

Difficult one, I think it will only become a trend if the players get success from doing it.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea, Football is a team game and you've worked hard all year only to not see it through to the end.

But that's just my opinion.

Chances are after the draft some people will look back and judge the decision based on what happens in April. Hindsight is clearer than foresight. The problem is nobody knows at this point who it helps more the team or the player.

If I was injured and questionable to play anyway, it would be a no-brainer. Skip it. These guys are healthy now though, so it is harder to say what the right decision for them would be.

If I was in their shoes I would skip it too.

I'm trying to get paid. College don't pay.

The thing is "trying to get paid" does not have to mean being the richest rookie RB. Players have to think about  two people:

Old me

Young me

What are NFL scouts getting when they see a young guy with elite talent stay home during his school's bowl game?

What are they getting from players the same age who had injuries earlier this year but are healthy now?

Suppose we were talking about players who have no football-related injury history

I would skip it all day if I was in their position. What more do they have to prove at this level? Fournette and McCaffrey aren't some new guys that just burst on the scene and need the bowl game to raise their profile. It only benefits the school and they've done enough to generate revenue for their school's. Plus there's a difference between the Fruit Loops bowl and the Rose Bowl.

If you're a QB I think it's definitely a chance to show off, but if you're a position where you're crashing into guys every other play why risk it?

Yeah I could care less either way.

Bowl Games are relatively meaningless these days
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
