Draft projections on Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, which run anywhere from the second to fourth round of the NFL draft next week, aren't quite as high as what he's been told by NFL executives. In fact, McCarron says he's been given a range of expectation that would make the earliest picks of the second round his worst-case scenario, not his best.

ive read that there are a lot of teams that think he is a player in the mold of tom brady. so if a team falls in love with him and buys the hype, he definitely could go that high. im not a huge fan of his arm but i do think he is smart and could be a solid starter with a high ceiling.

Correct. Just because teams said they expect him to be picked there doesn't mean any of the teams actually want him there enough to take him.

Until the pick is made, anyone who is eligible for the draft has the potential to be the first pick. Even McCarron.  Until the card is submitted and it's announced by the commissioner, there's no real way to know anything.  Houston could go off the reservation completely if they wanted to.  Nobody is saying McCarron will be the first pick, so relax.
