I actually pretty intrigued by this pickup. He was a preseason all-star and 49ers fans seem pretty upset by us scooping him up. During the preseason he had the following stats:

 

6 Sacks

2 PDs

2 FF

1 INT

 

PFF graded him very high as a passrusher but also graded him as one of the worst run defenders.

They had room after sending Poutasi to IR and I think they lost a ST linebacker (Porter) to injury in Houston. 

 

Of minor interest in this guy's draft profile is his skill as a pass rusher in college.  Doubt he sees the field on defense right away though. 

 

This also feels like Dave replacing the Holmes loss to the browns.
