I think this is very highly unlikely, but someone brought this up on face book and wanted peoples thoughts.     My reply we are not one or two players away from playoffs let alone super bowl.    So if cost was second rounder say no way.

This is the dumbest rumor I've heard yet.  No way a division foe helps another team in division get the player they covet.

Dont believe this at all, goes against what Caldwell has said and stands for by building through the draft

If the Texans want Mack, they'll just stick at #1 and take him. Wouldn't make sense to me.

Saw on Twitter that McShay said the trade would make sense for both teams. Depending on what we have to give up, I don't hate it. If we had to give up our 2nd or 3rd I would hate the trade but our 4th? Not bad.

Jaguars or anyone in the division for that matter would be the last teams they'd want to trade with.

First, they'd be giving up the best player in the draft to a division rival.  And second, I doubt any division rival would be wanting to trade the Texans the farm for him.

It would be more advantageous for the Texans to pull an Eli Manning/Phillip Rivers type trade. Texans take Clowney, Jags take Mack and they swap players for picks.

But I don't think Caldwell is that dumb.

What would be funny if the trade happened and the Rams took Mack lol

Caldwell would be a pure genius then.    Providing clowney worked out.   If he did not.   Well we all know the results of that.

As I mentioned in another thread:

Quote:Atlanta's second round pick is more valuable than ours (albeit not by much). And while St. Louis moves to #3 instead of #6. A 2nd round pick alone probably wont get it done as one of the players they are targeting is just as likely to be there at #3 as they are at #6.

St Louis is probably looking to take WR or OT (They probably have 4 players graded fairly equally Watkins, Evans, Robinson, and Matthews). #2 pick takes Clowney then one of those players will be there at #3 or #6.....

So that is why I feel we would need to give up more than just a 2nd round pick if we tried to trade with Saint Louis. If they go by just 2nd round picks alone an argument could be made they have a better deal with Atlanta. Plus if we both offered 2nd round picks I don't think ATL would have a problem adding in a 4th round pick or a pick next year. Not to mention Fisher doesn't like us anyway (though that probably wouldn't play a part in the decision).....

Back to my point if the team is even considering possibly giving a 2nd round pick to St Louis (which as I detailed would be a harder trade to accomplish). We mind as well just give the 2nd round pick to Houston and move to the #1 pick and take Clowney if the team feels he is that type of player.

Followed by this:
Quote:In 2001 Atlanta traded away picks #5 and #67, as well as a 2nd round pick the following year to move up to #1 and select Michael Vick.

I wouldn't mind trading #3 and #70 as well as a 2nd round pick next year to move to #1 and select Clowney.

It does seem far fetched but I do know the Jaguars want Clowney bad, and Houseton doesnt, I would only do it for a 4th and a 5th round pick, I wouldnt trade the 2nd or 3rd round picks.

If our FO and coaches really feel he is a once in lifetime prospect DE (HOFer), then make the trade. Even giving up a 2nd round pick is well worth it if they truly believe he is that type of player.

And the Chargers got the better end of the deal? What's your point?

Chargers ended up with Brees and Tomlinson in that draft. Falcons got Vick.... Great.

Giving up too much for one player is just nuts. Saints did it with Ricky Williams.

eh, I do think Rivers is a better QB but NY got 2 SB out of it.  Would NY ever have won 2 SB with Rivers?  We will never know.  SD also got rid of Brees because of Rivers where that didnt turn out to be the right decision.
