What would Davad Garrard do with the current roster?

#1

The local idiots labeled him as "captain check down" but Garrard was a decent QB.  He never had a #1 receiver and maybe not even a #2.  In 2007, if it weren't for Dennis Northcutt dropping 2 key balls in the endzone it may have been a superbowl team.

How good do you think the current team could be with a QB of Garrard's stature?  Average is much much better than we have now.

Probably 4 more wins. Garrard couldn't throw deep. He had to crow hop.

Division winner, win wild card, maybe win divisional round, lose AFC Championship.  He was a good QB, but his receivers always sucked.  The only thing he had going was MJD and Fred Taylor.

Edit: 2007 Garrard like MojoKing said

2007 Garrard? Wild Card run for sure, AFC Champions maybe...

He didn't have the D we had or the WR's, but he had a good running game. However he also only threw like 5ints?

2 in the regular season. I think 2 in the playoffs.  One was a 4th down play where he had to throw it.

Garrard was similiar to Alex Smith. Athletic tough qb with an average arm.

He was a game manager, which is hard to do when you don`t have a running game.

Garrard had how many years to develop before being thrust into a starting role again?

Not taking up for Blake, but the days of developing a QB are in the past.

Blake could have used a couple years on the bench to develop and learn.

When you get drafted into the top 5 that tells you the team drafting you probably has a QB problem.  Those days have long since gone.  If your drafted high expect to play much sooner than later

How's that working out for the top 2 picks from this year's draft?

The truth is the draft is a crapshoot.  I don't believe you can make an arguement for playing or sitting right away.  Each case is different but you either have it or you don't.

Without Fred Taylor and MJD maybe 3-4 wins. We had a better coach in 2007 as well.

Alex Smith is a winner. There are no similarities.
