I don't see Detroit giving up what would be necessary to move up to 3, especially since I seriously doubt the Jaguars are looking in that direction.  I've got a sneaking suspicion that the stars are going to align for the Jags, and we're going to be seeing Clowney fall into our lap at #3.  Stranger things have been known to happen.

That trade chart just doesn't apply anymore. Looking back at last years draft the Raiders dropped from 3 to 12 and it only took a 2nd round pick. They probably could have gotten more but it wouldn't have been much more.

Fortunately this years 3 is considerably more valuable than last years 3. I wouldn't do it if I wasn't getting at least their 1st, 2nd, and a future 2nd day pick...at least.

I would take a 2nd, 4th and 2nd next year. This seems fair to both sides as Detroit gets the player they want and the Jags will still get a very solid player at pick 10. The guys I'd target are Evans, Gilbert, Mathews, Barr and Bridgewater. Manziel and Mack will be gone or they'd be my pick.

I guess I am in the minority here.  The draft is deep, so their early picks in rounds subsequent to the first round are quite valuable.  Assuming Clowney is not on the board, I would trade back to 1-10 with Detroit, with their additional 2nd and 4th round picks.

The chart has always been a sort of guide, not black letter law. The value of the pick depends upon the available talent. Last year's draft was reportedly sparse at the very top, which is why Oakland didn't get much in trade. Anyone in the top3 who trades down will most certainly get more than Oakland.

Ain't no way Evans makes it past the Bucs at 7 if Sammy is gone though...so you're really foregoing Watkins for like Ebron, Martin, and a very meh RB. Is it worth it then? Probably not.

Be like bizzaro world. The less hyped climber of boards gets drafted at 10 by traded back rather than the more hyped Blaine Gabbert who was subsequently drafted at 10 as a result of trading up.

I'd be okay with this and targeting Mike Evans.  I think he's the more QB friendly of the receivers and would allow us to pick up more quality talent this year.  Also has a good chance of being the better pro long term.

I agree that a 2nd and 4th would be about equal compensation in this year's draft.  I doubt we can get much more.

 

Just for comparison's sake.  Last year the Dolphins moved up to #3 from #12 for Dion Jordan.  They only gave up #42 in the 2nd round.  And that draft class wasn't nearly as deep as this year's.

Fix the O-Line!

Forget trading to 10, here is a hypo question say Clownley is there as FBT pointed out could happen, what do the Jags do, do they take Clownley in a rapid heart beat or do they field the phones for trade offers? Clownley at 3, could have the Jags as the king cats in the draft.

I would take Clowney at 3.  Sure, I would field trade offers before the card is put in.  But, the only way I am trading away the pick (ie. Clowney) is if someone offers a significant 'got to take it' deal.
