You Make the Jags Round 2 Selection Based on This Mock...

#1

I just finished this mock of round 1.  I still have Houston taking the QB, despite all the Clowney hype after his "Show Day".  The Browns make a bold move.  Check it out.

When I got to the Jaguars' selection in round 2, I had trouble deciding.

Who would YOU take if you were making the pick, and why?

  1. HOU – QB B. Bortles

  2. STL  - OT G. Robinson

  3. JAC – DE J. Clowney

  4. CLE – QB J. Manziel

  5. OAK – WR Sammy Watkins

  6. ATL – OLB K. Mack

  7. TAM – OT J. Matthews

  8. MIN – QB T. Bridgewater

  9. BUF – OT T. Lewan

  10. DET – CB J. Gilbert

  11. TEN – OLB A. Barr

  12. CLE – WR M. Evans (from NYG for 1st
    </sup>

    , 2nd
    , and 3rd
     round picks)
  13. STL – FS H. Clinton - Dix

  14. NYJ – CB D. Dennard (from CHI for 3rd
    </sup>

    round pick)
  15. PIT – OT Z. Martin

  16. DAL – DT A. Donald

  17. BAL – FS C. Pryor

  18. CHI – DT T. Jernigan (from NYJ)

  19. MIA – OL X. Su’a-Filo

  20. ARI – DE K. Ealy

  21. GB – TE E. Ebron

  22. PHI – WR B. Cooks

  23. K.C. – WR O. Beckham Jr.

  24. CIN – OLB R. Shazier

  25. S.D. – NT L. Nix

  26. NYG – LB C.J. Mosley

  27. N.O. – DE/OLB D. Ford

  28. CAR – WR M. Lee

  29. OAK – QB D. Carr (from N.E. for 2nd
    </sup>

    anr 3rd
     round picks)
  30. S.F. – DT R. Hageman

  31. DEN – CB J. Verrett

  32. SEA – CB K. Fuller

  33. HOU – OT C. Kouandjio

  34. WAS – CB  B. Roby

  35. NYG – DT S. Tuitt

  36. N.E. – WR K. Benjamin (from OAK)

  37. ATL – TE J. Amaro

  38. TAM – WR A. Robinson

  39. JAC - ?
My personal top choices would be: OG D. Yankey, WR J. Matthews (and Allen Robinson if Tampa would not have taken him here due to the Mike Williams trade), and QB J. Garoppolo (although I have soured on him a little lately).

C Weston Richburg, FS Terrence Brooks or QB Zach Mettenberger. Yankey is tempting, too. I'd lean towards Richburg, though.

Good mock.

I'd take Matthews and hope that Jimmy G, Mett, or Murray is still available in the 3rd.

I like your trades as well, its very realistic. I think there were 5 first round trades last year. There could be even more this year.

I don't love our 2nd round position unless someone unexpected drops. There are a lot of guys I like such as Borland and Jean-Baptiste that we could probably trade back and still get. I think this spot is too high for Mettenberger as well. I bet we could get him in the 3rd

I don't think there's any way Mett falls to the 3rd and I think Jean-Bap in the second would be to high. Borland is good but we already have Poz and we need a playmaker in the second

Thanks.  Yeah, I think after his Pro Day the Browns will end up taking Manziel, even though they have been linked to Carr.  Then, if Evans is still there at 12, the Browns might do whatever it takes to trade up and get Evans to pair them up.  Later, the Raiders who are not said to really like Carr, trade up into the bottom of the first to ensure they get him.  Jags lose out on trades in this mock.  I kind of with that Clowney would be gone and we'd get Watkins for some reason, but even then we'd probably take Mack.

The Browns wasnt even there and they fired Lombardi because he wanted Manziel

I had Van Noy going to Tampa right before our pick until they traded away Mike Williams today.  That means they will draft a WR early.  If they don't get Watkins in the first (they may trade up with Jags now), then they definitely take one in the 2nd.

I don't see us taking Mettenberger for a couple of reasons.  First of all, he has character issues (drinking and a rape allegation).  Caldwell does not want another chance of a problem like Blackmon).  Secondly, his ACL will not be 100% when the season starts I don't think.  Whichever QB the Jags take, he will be their primary back-up.  I'm pretty sure they will want him 100% for camp and the start of the season.

That is true..... smoke screen!  LOL..  I just don't think they wait until #26 to try to get Carr, because they know the Raiders want him.  Maybe they trade down a few spots below the Oakland, see if the Raiders take Manziel, then they will know if they can wait and get Carr later.  Of course the Vikings are said to like Carr, and might just take him at #8.  So many possibilities!

Really? I think his ceiling is quite a bit higher than that.  O'Brien probably also feels it is, and that he could coach him up to a pretty high level eventually with Fitzpatrick starting for a while and mentoring.

I'd take him at #3 if he were there.

Yea I like your choices, but I dont think we will take a FS that high, def would not take a OG right there like others are saying.

QB, C, WR with Clowney being the 1st round pick no reason to draft another guy in the front 7 we would be pretty loaded and could get more guys later in the draft. I also would be ok with a CB

Word is that Mettenberger will do all the drills at LSU pro day next week, so if he does that he will def be ready for the season, even still he prob wont be expected to start this year anyways. If you think Caldwell will pass on him due to character issues, you must feel he would pass on Watkins too right? i'm asking because I dont know if your one of the many who say we might draft Watkins.
