If we don't take a Qb in the first, which Rookie QB do we take later?

I'm really hopping for Garopollo, the guy is going to be good.

Good/Interesting question. Really want MAnziel obviously, but I would actually be extremely happy with a number of the 'lower round guys'.

I personally like Aaron Murray and Tajh Boyd for 'late round/project/Russel Wilson-esque' QBs that are a bit rough around the edges but could become something really great in a few years/with a little bit of work.

As for other late-round QBs that I'm not yet ready to give the keys to the kingdom, but would nonetheless like to see in a Jaguars jersey(perhaps as that "2nd QB" some have talked about picking up in the draft). Give me Connor Shaw or AJ Mcarron all day, both really good guys and extremely intelligent QBs IMO.

I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

Tajh Boyd is a product of Watkins and Hopkins, notice his decline in play this year after losing Hopkins? He looked like he didn't know what he was doing at the Senior bowl, as for McCarron and Shaw I do not know enough about them to make any sort of analysis here.

Brett Smith plz, and to a little lesser extent Fales. They would be my 3rd round targets (I don't want any QB at 39, no good values there). Logan Thomas or Tom Savage too if they are available day 3.

How exactly did Boyds decline?

Later than 39 the only developmental prospect worth taking is Logan Thomas.

You want to develop a guy who has the tools. Why would you take one of these these limited guys if they weren't good enough to be taken in the top 2 rounds ? There is no Russell WIlson in this class.

Mettenberger or Garrapolo

Tom Savage is my favorite candidate for a developmental qb in the later

Im really surprised how many people like a FCS spread system QB when there are plenty of big boy football options.

I thought we moved on from the small school obsessed Gene era.

Are any of these 2nd round and beyond picks more capable than Matt Scott at this point? Scott has been given a year to sit and learn the offense without any pressure, plus he performed pretty well in the preseason despite coming from a spread offense. I don't know if Garrapollo, Fales, or any of those other SEC QBs are even worth the pick. If I'm Caldwell I pull the trigger on a top-tier QB (Bridgewater or Bortles) at 3 or trade down to the bottom of the top 10 for the second tier options like Manziel and Carr.

I certainly don't remember Matt Scott playing well in preseason.

I'd be willing to say there are 10 or more QBs I'd rather have from this draft class than Matt Scott.

Granted, this link only covers one week, but I just don't see the benefit in drafting another project QB to develop when one is already on the roster and has had a full year with the system. I'm not saying Matt Scott is the answer, but I am shying away from the lackluster options at QB after the first round.

1. Garrop

2. Fales

3. Shaw

Matt Scott played well in the preseason? Were we watching the same Matt Scott?

Boyd may have had a few 'hiccups' in his last season(FSU game/Senior bowl), but I think his truly stellar collegiate career as a whole speaks for itself. I mean doesn't he hold pretty much every Clemson and ACC record at the QB position, and didn't he in his last 'real game' against OHio state set like the record for most total yards in an orange-bowl game in history? I think the kid would be a real steal in the late rounds. Especially if we got Watkins at #3 and Boyd later, we could get the old gang back together

As for Shaw and McCarron, these guys IMO were just tireless workhorses who never really got the credit they deserved. Who for the most part were overshadowed by their coaches(both Saban and Spurrier are celebrities in their own rights), and their teams defenses(Alabama D for McCarron and Clowney for Shaw)

He didn't, he's just not the flavor of the month for the NFL like some of these late-draft-risers like Bottles. Very few QB-prospects in this draft have even half the resume that Boyd does.
