Where will Denard Robinson fit in the Jags Offense?

#1

They just signed FA RB Toby Gerhart and they have Jordan Toddman, so with that being said I really have know idea where D. Rob will fit at RB...

I think he needs to try to win the 3rd RB spot.   It's going to be tough, because I expect they will draft a RB  with one of their late round picks.   I would guess his odds of making the team are 50-50.

He'll make the team, I think... I really think the bigger question is what will they do with Ace Sanders? If they continue to use Sanders as a true WR, Robinson's strength will probably lie in special teams. If Sanders returns back to being a ST specialist, Robinson's value will diminish. There's no good reason not to keep him around, though.

If he can keep that bad case of butterfingers at bay, his speed is downright nasty. You don't cut speed...

They'll continue to develop him at RB.  Caldwell and Bradley likely knew it was going to take patience, with him transitioning from a college QB position.  There is a reason that he was available in the back half of the draft.

He will be a backup running back. Todman is only on a one year deal. He was average at best last year and it seems unlikely he is in the long terms plans for this team.

They'll probably try to use him like the Pats used Woodhead and Edelman.

They'll dial up a couple of gadget plays for him and give him 5 or 6 carries with some creative blocking to give him a little bit of space (where he's dangerous.)

Todman will be the "spellback" and Robinson the "change-of-pace-guy."

I think he competes.  I heard on twitter that he's up to about 215 lbs.  Everybody last year said he needed to put on weight.  He did, and now we get to see what kind of a difference that makes with him.  I don't think they're gonna give shoelace the boot after one rookie year and an offseason where he's done exactly what he needed to do to hopefully get to the next level.

Isn't he up to 210-215?

Shoelace checked in at 199 pounds at last year's Combine. "He has taken a different approach," coach Gus Bradley said of Robinson's offseason. "He’s coming in to get ready and he understands he’s a running back." Robinson won't get a shot at the starting job, but is getting another opportunity to establish himself as a play-making, change-of-pace back. He's a name to file away in deeper PPR leagues.

I hate when they tell fast/ quick  guys to add weight.

All that seems to do is negate their best attribute without making much of a difference, otherwise.

Quote:13. The Jaguars expect Robinson to play a significant role. The 2013 fifth-round selection has returned to Jacksonville significantly bigger than last season – up to 212 pounds from 197 – with the idea to be able to take more contact as he focuses on playing running back. The Jaguars like Robinson and believe he can take a step from Year One to Year Two.

He's going to have the chance to compete to be the number two guy.  The change of pace from Gerhart as the #1.  I hope he takes that opportunity and kicks it into gear this season.  He has special abilities and if he can learn the position we may have something out of a  5th round pick.

I don't think he'll make it as a RB running between the tackles.  You just can take someone and say "run between the tackles".  He's spent his entire career eluding the oncoming defense and now we're asking him to run into it.  If anything, make him our wildcat dude and/or utilize him to throw the other team off with trick plays or fakes.  Between his lack of pass catching skills and fumbling the ball on hand offs, I don't see him taking on a traditional role in the NFL.

I've tried to stress this over and over, but he needs to learn how to hold onto the ball.  I hope he reached out to some veterans who have corrected their issues in the past, like Tiki.

This. If he grows at the position like I think he will his speed, agility & toughness will take care of the rest and put him over Todman IMO.
