Four teams interested in Mack

#1

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports four teams have shown "varying levels" of interest in free agent C Alex Mack.

I really hope Jags are one of them. He's the best center in football.

If the Jaguars don't get a quality center, this free agency gets a D- grade

Somehow, I think we'll earn a D- from you regardless of what we do.

So what exactly does the Tag do if we sign him? Do we lose anything?

Wouldn't signing Weeden get us a C+ or something?

Not on a transition tag, no.

Bring Weeden in for competition in training camp.  Not a bad idea.

LOL

There are four highly rated centers in this year's draft and three players on the current roster with experience at the position.

Getting one in FA is not a necessity.

What quality centers are left in FA? Think there's close to a handful that look promising in the draft

All FA centers are still available as of this point.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

If he signs with us the browns will have 5 days to match the offer and keep him.

He doesn't appear to want to stay long term with the browns, so there is a possibility he won't sign any offers in order to keep the browns from being able to match a long term contract thus keeping him there. If he doesn't sign an offer, he would play for the browns next year under the transition tag which would pay him the average salary of the top ten offensive linemen in the NFL. It would also put pressure on the browns to release him the following year due to the limit on the number of times you can tag a player.

It is a bit of an awkward situation. The browns have a lot of cap space so theoretically they could easily match any offer made. That's why you haven't seen any offers being made for him yet. Teams are just watching and waiting right now.
