Aside from the conspiracy theory, he's got a point.  Most teams were right up against the cap and the Jaguars were one of the few teams in great shape to make moves.  With the huge increase in salary cap, now most teams having breathing room and can resign their own players.  Other teams will now have the space to compete to sign the remaining free agents, which they wouldn't have been able to do before.

It is interesting that when it was time for the Jaguars to implode because of the salary cap we just imploded and got 10 years of middling seasons at best, but when marquee teams are about to have trouble the NFL finds a way to keep them from having to deal with their prior excesses.

Johnson is barely an upgrade from Mincey. Do not want. Some team will regret signing him, especially at the money he'll get this offseason.

Paying Orakpo 11 mil is exactly why the Redskins are in trouble in the first place. There is no way he would have sniffed that on the open market.

Yeah, but it's a rental.  It's pretty stupid that the cap went up so high.

There's a good chance that close to all of the players  ( non-Kickers ) that have the Franchise Tag placed on them in 2014 and don't sign long term contracts,  will be UFA's in 2015.   The one exception is Jimmy Graham.   It's hard to envision Brian Orakpo being tagged again next year.    He could easily be following the 2013 Michael Johnson route,  from the standpoint that he has to wait a year to test the open market.

Not sure if Orakpo is a repeat tag....but what should happen is teams shouldn't be allowed to use the tag on any one player more than once.
