Something that a lot of people on these boards forget is that Manziel did in fact play one team from Teddy's AAC conference this year: SMU.

(*note: Teddy by chance did not play SMU this year, Bortles did.)

24-35 for 242-yards passing.

Manziel had more passing yards on 14-less passes, and the QBR-gap between the two is quite telling IMO. 
Oh, and keep in mind, Bortles did those numbers playing all 4 quarters. Manziel sat on the bench after one drive into the 3rd quarter.

 
And of course mind you, Johnny was doing this to AAC defenses, just one week after putting over 560-yards of total offense against the #1 ranked defense Alabama.  :blink: Perhaps Johnny in the AAC would have *averaged over 500-yards per game for the season, and a *90-plus QBR for the year. Pretty cray-cray just to imagine.

The strength of schedule argument is a weak one in the first place. Players cannot control that.

Manziel plays a style more conducive to putting up big numbers... especially against weaker talent.  But you have to determine if his style will project to the next level.

No doubt Alabama defense last 2 year hasn't been very good. My Gators defense wasn't even good in 2013. There were some good offenses though. Bama,A&M,Lsu,Auburn,Georgia before injuries to Wr,Rb and Qb. South Carolina offense pretty good also. Still best conference though.

A&M also has a 1st round O-Lineman and 1st round WR.

Ogbuehi is going to be a top 10 pick next year too. Manziel never played without the two best OTs in the NCAA protecting him.

I think I saw that UCF vs SMU game. The conditions were terrible as I remember. Lots of snow and extremely cold conditions. If that's the case, those games would be unfair to compare.

I agree mostly. I actually think Bortles is pretty far below. My dream scenario of this draft is Houston going Bortles #1 for Teddy to fall into our laps.

It's a team game, A&M is overall way more loaded than SMU or any team in that conference. You can't judge how good a quarterback is by stats when he relies on other people for them.

I just can't make up my mind about Bortles. I think he can be pretty good, but i'm just not sure. He really didn't play well against Baylor, his receivers caught screen or short passes and broke a few tackles.

I thought he played pretty good in bowl game. The bowl game is only time I've seen Bortles play. Some of his YouTube highlights were mediocre.

Put Bridgewater on Manziel's team and they go undefeated. The two teams that beat Manziel had the talent to keep him in the pocket....talent he will face every game as a pro.
