Greg Hardy

Franchise tagged, was hoping he'd hit the market and we would make a big splash and sign him.

We (Jags) probably were planning to make a big splash and sign Hardy. Goodell likely got word of that so he took the necessary step to insure that that didn't happen. i.e. raising the salary cap ceiling leaguewide, so the teams up against the cap, could have an easier time keeping their stud players so the Jags don't get them. The NFL really really do not want the Jags to succeed while still in Jacksonville. They want us to go down in flames in Jax so Goodell and the other money people get their wish of Jax relocating to London or LA.

The above is all an opinion/ hypothesis, of course.

Hardy would have been an instant difference maker on our team, and along with the draft and other free agent signings could have made us a winner next season. (winning record that is)

Half of sacks came in 2 games vs backups and look who's he playing with. They were smart to only tag him hoping some dumb team will give up two firsts.

No team is giving up 2 firsts, for any of the franchised FA's.

The above is just random ramblings from an idiot, that's all.

Goodell and the NFL doesn't really care about Jacksonville, so he's not going to be changing things just because he perceives us as a "threat'

Yeah because signing high priced free agents usually leads to success...

No one is saying to build the team via UFA, but to act/ infer that the Jags signing a few like Hardy or Jairus Byrd would have been a bad thing is hilarious.

Even back in the 90's the Jags made some good high priced big ticket signings like Leon Searcy.

OR maybe Hardy is just really good, and a player worth franchising?

Caldwell has said several times that he's not going to make a big splash in free agency anyway.

Hardy would have been nice to have.  Too bad we drafted Larry Hart over him.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I'm really glad your time in purgatory hasn't lead to some of your already truly insane views becoming even more ridiculous.

And Austen Lane.  Hardy was a 6th round pick.  The next DE to be picked after Hart.  Finding gems in the later rounds, while drafting well in the early rounds seems to be the key to success.

1. Get a QB

2. Draft well early

3. Find later round Gems

4. ???

5. Profit

I'll be cynical about the upper powers that be in this league and their plans/ hopes for the Jaguars in Jacksonville until I actually see the Jaguars be successful while still here. Follow the money as they say. The Jags in Jacksonville aren't bringing in nowhere near enough money for the greedy suits in this league's liking. I have little doubt that Goodell (and his cronies) want the Jags to fail in Jax so that they move and move to one of Goodell & co.'s preferred locales.

You don't have to believe it. As said, its just a theory/ opinion/ maybe even conspiracy theory of mine. Is it out there? Probably. But unlike you and some others I won't leave any stone unturned as a possibility until they (the theories) are proven they aren't a possibility.

If/ when the Jags start winning here again, I'll have no problem re-visiting this theory of mine and eating proper crow for it.

Or perhaps its just sour grapes from the Jags missing out on Greg Hardy....  Ninja

Goodell doesn't determine the cap, does he?

I'm beginning to wonder if Jungle Cat hacked TMD's account today.

Goodell isn't part of the cap formula, but Goodell has the power to implement/ hold in the reins capwise if he & the ownership wished.

The cap going up helps the teams that are already good right now and wish to not lose their stud players in FA. It doesn't help the teams in the Jaguars position at all.
