Trade up or trade back?

#1
(This post was last modified: 02-22-2014, 01:57 AM by knarnn.)

It seems like all of the ducks (or stars) have aligned for a potential trade. Caldwell has the clout (picks) and friendship to trade up to the #2 pick with the Rams and Les Snead as GM and he also seems to have greased the wheels for a trade back with the Falcons and Dimitroff if Clowney is available from previous reported comments from Dimitroff.

If Bridgewater is available at #2 and the Rams are entertaining offers from other teams in an attempt to trade up do you offer a few mid round picks to secure your guy, most likely being Bridgewater?

Assuming you decided to stay put at #3 and Clowney is available and the Falcons come calling offering a few mid round picks to swap 1st rounders do you take the deal or stay put and select Clowney?

One thing to consider. Both trades would involve trades between former partners/buddies so the picks given or the compensation received may be less than what you would expect when looking at the trade chart.

No way we trade up.

We stay put and draft Jake Matthews. He's the best football player in this draft.

If somehow somebody takes him prior to three, we trade back using one of the crown princes of future football as trade bait.

Let's not leave out the option of drafting a player at three and holding him hostage for picks.

His arm length says otherwise.

Per rotoworld:

Quote:Texas A&M OT Jake Matthews measured 6-foot-5 1/2 and 308 pounds at Thursday's NFL Combine weigh-in.

He has somewhat short arms at 33 3/8 inches, although not quite short enough to eliminate Matthews from left tackle consideration. There has been some odd buzz about NFL teams fancying Matthews as an interior lineman, which would hurt his stock.

Why do you keep saying the Jaguars should pick a left tackle? I won't stop asking until you give me an answer because people have been telling you we don't need Jake Matthews.

Why call him a left tackle?

Jake can play any position on the offensive line. Left guard. Right guard. Center. Left tackle. Right tackle. Even played as a jumbo tight end.

That versatility is a major reason why he's so coveted. It's easy. Draft him and throw him into the offensive line mix. Watch what happens.

I see you completely ignored my response.

No GM in their right mind is selecting a Guard or Center in the top 3 of the draft. If he cant play tackle he isn't worthy son.

He played right tackle when the Aggies had Luke Joeckel. If they did not have Joeckel, he would have spent all four years on the left side. You made up the idea he plays guard and center.

Regardless of who is available at #3? Who would you trade with?

If a QB is on the board at 2 that Dave is convinced he is the only franchise QB prospect in the class, and he thinks there is a good chance that another team trades up to 2, absofrigginlutely trade up for him...whether it is Teddy, JFF, or Bortles. Dave has already said he has a great relationship w/ Snead and thinks it would only cost a 3rd or 4th rounder to do it. That's a no brainer under those conditions.

Watch the draftbreak down video from the 2013 Missouri game. His arm length is not ideal, but the timing of the extension is what matters.

No. He can play any position on the offensive line. Scouts know this.

KY as in Kentucky, not the lubricant.

Louisville is in Kentucky. You want to blow two picks just to over-draft an average college quarterback?

Right.

That's the same game that put Kony Ealy on Mayock's radar.

From Twitter:

Quote:Mayock says tape that jumped out to him of Mizzou's Kony Ealy was TAMU, against Jake Matthews. Believes he's a first-rounder.

Is this meant to invoke some kind of peril for Jake Matthews?

Do you happen to have Ealy's stats from that game?

Stats are for children and amateurs.

Which one are you?

Kony Ealy had 3 solo tackles and 1 assist. 0 sacks. For the most part, Ealy was run right over. Matthews got a holding call against Ealy as Texas A&M had their backs against the goal line.

Can you supply the link to twitter where Mayock was quoted?

It was also mentioned in Mayock's conference call. Matthew Fairburn tweeted it.
