Eugene Monroe update

#1

The former Jaguar thinks because he plays the best he can, he should get the best money too. Do the Ravens love him enough to pay top dollar?

Most players take that stance.  Seems like they said in the article they view him as a long term solution at LT.  He was good here, not elite, but very capable.

Huh

I guess Baltimore has paid their rental price, now they have to pay the mortgage.

Why wouldn't he get every dollar he can? Players have a short time to play in the league. Make every dollar you can.

This is the part where David Caldwell starts to look like a smart man.

Now you have a better LT on a rookie contract for 3 more years and an extra 4th and 5th.

And maybe he knew what they had in Pasztor, because he played well after Monroe was traded.

I think Ozzie and Monroe will meet each other in the middle if they truly want it to work out.

Looking at their Cap situation, I would think they would love for Rice, Flacco, and Ngata to restructure a drip of their contracts.

Why in God's name did Ozzie do that trade? He gave up two picks just so he could rent Eugene Monroe and then have to go into contract negotiations with him.

It just seems like he got fleeced on that one.

HAHAHA.

"But but but a 4th and a 5th is not good value for a LT, despite the market", everyone on here when the trade happened.

No, not everyone.

Just a vocal minority.  Mostly the usual sourpusses.

That trade would have only made sense for Baltimore if they made the playoffs and had another super bowl push, in part because Monroe protected Flacco well.

They rented him for half a year and gave us a 4th and 5th.  Can't say I'm not happy.

I can see one of those pics get us a starting RB in the draft.

Why is it that some people have to exaggerate to attempt to sound intelligent?

Everybody? I would say it was a minority.

Funny how a good GM actually knows more than message-board pundits...eh?

Joeckel's mediocrity at his unnatural RT position and Monroe's pending large contract demands created a perfect trade scenario for fleecing the playoff caliber Ravens, who were desperate to keep their immobile over-priced QB Flacco upright for another super bowl push. Caldwell looks like a genius at this moment.

That is why I kept saying before the draft, "Don't pick a left tackle to play on the right side. We need a natural right tackle." Luke Joeckel showed everyone I was right about that before the trade.

If he signs with the ravens it no longer was a rental but a down payment, and if he becomes the long term answer at LT like Harbaugh thinks, it becomes a pretty sweet deal for the ravens.

How? How does this become a sweet deal for them? If he signs long-term with them, then what is the difference in that and them signing him in Free Agency after he finished his contract in Jacksonville? The only difference that I see is that Baltimore would still have two draft picks if they didn't make the trade.

Bottom line - at least from my perspective - is that Baltimore traded away two draft picks in order for Monroe to play eleven games for them; six of which, they lost. I'm not proclaiming Caldwell as a genius or anything here, but Ozzie gave up more than I would have for a guy to play eleven games.

Sorry, but no.  I think there was a total of 4-6 posters who were mad at that trade.

There are some OTs that are adept at playing on both sides. Unfortunately, Joeckel was not "ambi-tackle-drous" as was hoped.

Yeah, I think a few people were Monroe fans and were sad to see him go...but to say many people here were mad is a stretch.

I would be surprised if the Dolphins don't make a hard push to sign him. Their line is in shambles, definitely the worst situation in the league. Signing Monroe would be a great start for them. I also think Brandon Albert is a free agent as well.
