Texans are leaning towards Manziel or Bortles

Blake Bortles - QB - Golden Knights

According to "trusted sources," Russ Lande notes the Texans are leaning towards selecting UCF QB Blake Bortles or Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel.

"Although Manziel would obviously be the choice of owner Bob McNair, O'Brien is not sold that Manziel possesses the work ethic and intangibles necessary to be the face of a franchise.," Lande writes. The former NFL scout adds the Texans could select pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney with the first pick and draft a quarterback during the second day, but this idea was shut down by trusted beat writer John McClain last week. If the Texans are focused on selecting a quarterback, specifically Bortles or Manziel, we find it shocking that the list does not include Teddy Bridgewater.

I heard that Manziel turned down over 10 opportunities to go to the SB and be a guest at many parties but turned them all down to go work out and prepare for the combine and Pro Day. Sounds like he may be changing his tune.

They'll probably take Bortles. I have a feeling he will have a good career.

Not saying I disagree but Manziel could be doing this to just improve his draft stock. Then once he gets a contract the work ethic starts slacking.

I so agree with you though. I think Manziel will put in the necessary work but I just don't think he will be good enough to warrant a top 5 pick.

Well if they take Bortles or Manziel, we get the "leftovers" between Clowney and Teddy. I like.

Much rather be deciding between Bridgewater and Clowney than these other guys

Wonder if they'd trade up to 2 for Clowney if that's who they want

this is shaping up to really make me happy. my favorite guy is teddy bridgewater. if the jaguars wind up still getting him at 3 or the way this is shaping up, could potentially even make a trade down, get a couple more pics and still get teddy.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Total win for the Jags if they get to choose between Bridgewater or Clowney.

Absolutely nothing would make me happier than the Texans taking Bortles and then the Browns trading to two for Manziel.

I'm sure the reporting here is completely accurate, and that nobody is floating misinformation from the Texans front office.

It's possible that by saying they're looking at Manziel or Bortles, they're really thinking Bridgewater or Clowney, and this is just another head fake.  Teams aren't going to tip their hands.

They know there are teams looking at Manziel and Bortles.  They might think that by floating this out there, one of those teams, namely Cleveland, might be willing to move up and get their guy if they feel he won't be there when they pick.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Really?  Trading out of the first pick and nabbing possibly 2 first round selections from another team to do so is certainly worthy of a smoke screen.

Why would a team trade that much for Manziel or Brotles? Clowney and Bridgewater are the guys who has had all the hype all year but they say they dont really want them, that would be a bad smoke screen.

In that case they should be saying they like all the players and dont know who they are leaning towards to get somebody to trade up, and not saying they are leaning to the two QBs with the biggest question marks.

People really don't understand what the term smokescreen encompasses.

If they want Bridgewater or Clowney, then trading down to 4 could be a big mistake though.

1: Cleveland takes Manziel

2: St. Louis takes Clowney OR trades down with team who takes Clowney

3: Jaguars take Bridgewater

4: Texans end up with Bortles I guess

Would make more sense if they were hoping to get Bortles, but want to trade down with Cleveland IMO.  Smokescreen on Manziel, especially with the hiring of Kyle Shanahan in Cleveland.  Bortles as their true target would let them move down to 4.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
