According to Draft Insider Tony Pauline, NFL opinions on Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas are "all over boards," ranging from a second- to fifth-round grade. Pauline believes NFL teams are "really wanting to like Thomas" despite maddeningly inconsistent on-field performance throughout his college career. Some teams reportedly attribute Thomas' streakiness to a number of different offensive coordinators at Virginia Tech. Thomas goes 6-foot-6, 250 with plus athleticism. He posted a combined 53:39 TD-to-INT ratio as a Hokie.

I've been talking about him for a while.

 

Round 5-7 and a couple years on the bench would be nice to me.  Certainly worth a shot.

 

He's got better than ideal size and athleticism.  The big question is, can he become an NFL QB?  Someone will think they can build him into one.  Who knows, they just might - but it won't be overnight, and it's certainly no given.

hate the "finished product" argument....its the same reasoning that people tried to use to find negatives for Luck and Manning. 

 

I'd take Murray over Logan Thomas. I'd take Thomas over McCarron though.

Yeah, that's the biggest apples/oranges I've seen in a while sheesh...what a colossal reach. Luck and Manning were both prototypical franchise QBs in virtually every way.

 

Then you look at Murray...combine undersized, underarmed, underathletic, AND four years of experience and evaluation you get a terrible developmental QB. Microscopic room for growth there, pass every time.

Hasn't this been this kids whole career as a QB, he shows flashes of something then does some of the most horrid passing ever seen in the game? I remember a couple of years ago some people were saying if he came out as a junior he was going to be a 1st round pick for sure then after the college season no one said that again.

At worst he is a 6'6, 250 lb athlete. Evaluate him at QB, if you don't think he's got it, give him a shot at TE or something. In that sense he is like 2 picks in one.

 

I'd never bag a team for taking a shot on a guy like that.

He's low on boards because some see a quarterback as a surreal franchise savior that must employ the forward pass thirty to fifty times a game.

 

He's high on boards because more experienced people understand a quarterback needs to be able to do two things: 1) hand the ball off and 2) throw for a first down once in a while.

 

To the inexperienced Thomas is a flop that will wash out.

 

To the experienced Thomas is good enough to hand the ball off and throw for first downs once in a while.

I would argue, but like literally the last 6 weeks that's exactly what Russell wilson has done, Throw in a couple of crazy down the field throws but u basically just described him .over the course of the last few weeks.

Hrm, well I would argue that he is all over the board in the minds of NFL Scouts because some place more emphasis on production while others on potential.  I'm sure a guy like Jon Gruden would tell you he could fix Thomas' inconsistencies.  While other scouts would say why bother.  

 

If Logan Thomas had Aaron Murray's size and arm, he would be undraftable.  But elite natural physical ability doesnt come along every day.  And people/scouts can want to believe they can mold that.
