Roger Goodell says extra points may be abolished

I heard them talking about this on sirius.  If they want to make it more exciting, then my idea would be:

A touchdown is worth 7 points.

After the touchdown, the "point after" is an attempt at the endzone from 3 yards out.  Get it in the endzone and you get the extra point, making it an 8 point endzone trip.

If you wanted to make it more exciting, then you could make the TD 7 points.  Point after attempt at the endzone is optional.  Make it and you get the 8 full points, but miss on the extra attempt and your 7 gets dropped to 6.

That was exactly what Roger Goodell said was suggested by the competition committee. I hate it.

Why do you hate it?  It's adding excitement to a part of the game that was always pretty much meaningless.

I think in only 1 game in our team's existence did an extra point have a drastic effect on the outcome of a game.  Which was against the Saints at home a couple years ago.  In the grand scheme of things, the extra point is pretty meaningless.

I don't like the idea of subtracting a point from the touchdown.

That was way more than a couple years ago. It was Mark Brunell's last home game as a Jaguar.

It is anybody's guess what would have happened in overtime if John Carney made that attempt.
