I think he'd be better off staying at Vandy for now.

I thought his team was a "bottom dweller"? Why the love for this guy?

Vandy right now IMO is a better job. It's in a better conference. If he could have held out for a little bit longer, he could have gotten one of the top college football jobs.

Because if you can win 8 games at Vandy and bring four star caliber high school players to Vandy, you're a damn good coach.

FYI, despite their recent black clouds, Penn St would be a top 10 coaching dream gig.

I don't think Penn State is a top 10 coaching job.

Texas

USC

Florida

Alabama

LSU

Georgia

Notre Dame

Oklahoma

Florida State

Ohio State

All of those are better jobs than Penn State, with or without sanctions.

I think you could replace Georgia with PSU.

Georgia has more money, a better recruiting base, and are in a better conference.

Regarding your first two points, I beg to differ. But we can agree to disagree.

Money can be debatable, although SEC schools have lots of money. Recruiting base, however, is not really debatable. Georgia recruits the entire southeast. The athletes in this region>in the northeast.

He didn't get Texas or USC... Penn State is as high as he was going to get, which as knarnn said, PSU is a top college football job.

Penn State recruits from the southeast too, so it's even there.

PSU has a national recruiting base but regardless, of all the schools you listed I can't see any of them becoming available in the near future sans Florida, and I wouldn't hold my breath for that position. He made a good move financially and career wise. He moved from a bottom dweller in the SEC to a highly respected national program. Penn St will open up even more lucrative future gigs a whole lot quicker then staying at Vandy would.

I have to agree. Franklin was creating a buzz at Vandy like never before. At Penn State, he'll disappear.

I know he is a good coach and Vandy has improved dramatically.  It just seems like Vandy still has not shed the bottom dweller label yet in alot of eyes.

Penn State football is probably bigger than Vandy.

Penn State is without a doubt, head and shoulders above Vandy.  Penn State is probably just outside the top 10 coaching jobs in the country for sure.  Would you rather coach a team that can compete every year for the Big 10 title or be the little brother of the conference when it comes to recognition and recruits?  Vandy isn't even the best team in their state.

They are maybe top 25, but with all the sanctions and stuff they are not what they were.  It would be neat to see if he can bring the program back to relevancy.

Having lived in both SEC and B10 country I can honestly say that historically speaking Georgia and PSU are about the same in my eyes.  Sure right now PSU is down a bit due to sanctions but they will bounce back.  Too large of a fan base not to bounce back.

With the top 10 list I would replace ND with Michigan though.  Georgia and PSU are top 20, perhaps top 15.  Oklahoma is in the ranks of Georgia and PSU.
