Unless they can secure a better veteran option to be that role for the rookie they acquire, Henne is the best option for this team moving forward.  They're not going to overspend or give up anything to get a veteran QB for this team when the intention is to build through the draft, so whoever they bring in (assuming they do bring in another veteran) will serve as a mentor to the rookie.  It's not that difficult to understand for most people.  If they can upgrade from Henne while still getting the QB of the future in the draft, they will.  If not, Henne has the most familiarity with the offense, and he's capable of getting mediocre production in a pinch.

I can't think of anyone better.  Henne knows the play book and is a solid backup QB.  He's sucked the last two games because he had no weapons down field.  No QB could have thrived with as little to work with as him.

Exactly.  The fact that he still managed to put up more than 3k yards passing with the lack of weapons he had at his disposal is laudable.  He's a solid backup who knows the personnel and the playbook.  That's a pretty valuable asset to have at your disposal.

Only thing Henne can do is show someone how to throw timely INTs with the game on the line, not many have that skill

A little common sense is needed here.

If Henne had any ability to mentor a young quarterback don't you think (even a little) that Miami would have kept him around to do just that?

The Dolphins drafted Ryan Tannyhill and the plan never even considered the notion of Henne as some kind of mentor.

The fact that the Jaguars are again looking for a franchise quarterback is living proof the franchise is not capable of developing a pro quarterback.

Using Gabbert as a scape-goat for a sixth-consecutive non-winning season simply means the incompetent Jacksonville Jaguars would rather eat their own every few years than groom a pro prospect.

Sound familiar?

The batted forward pass will reach new levels as Henne instills the art form into the mind and body of new meat.

The idea of retaining Henne has been floated several times in the past few weeks.  The logic used is his consistency and ability as a backup.  Personally..  I never want to see him in a Jags uniform ever again.  Consistency..  minimum of 4 balls batted at the line of scrimmage every week.  He has NEVER shown the ability to string together more than two games where he looks like a remotely serviceable QB.  When his statline looks decent, its because he put up yards and points in garbage time..  just like he did today.  This team FINALLY is giving the sense they are progressing.  We should hold on to Henne because he was better than Gabbert?!?  Please.  Dude is straight doo doo.  He may be a swell guy, but let's move on.  Just because we're not used to getting better at the QB position doesn't mean we should continue to settle for subpar play.  We can do better.

If by "mentor" you mean back up, then yes.

If Henne is retained, its because he knows the offense and is a capable backup. The QB coach should be the mentor, not Henne, I don't want him to teach our new QB how to throw an int in crunch time.

Similar to my thoughts.

If he were a 40 year old Mark Brunell with no illusions of still being a starting QB and had actually shown success and drive in his career that'd be one thing, but Henne is just Gabbert in a few years. No need to keep Gabbert, no need to keep Henne. Time for a fresh start.
