Nick Foles

#1

I feel as though I never look back at successful players and see what traits that had in college that would lead to success.  So I decided to look up some Nick Foles highlights while he was at Arizona.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRXV-3kvTwQ - Oregon 2010

Not hard to see why he fell to late 3rd round.  Looks unnerved in the face of pressure.  Not always accurate.  falls back on some throws.  Looks like he has a good not great arm but you rarely see it.  Big kid.  And a good athlete.  had basketball scholarship offers from the likes of Georgetown.  however his timed statistics were subpar compared to other prospects in 2012.  He was compared to Chad Henne coming out of the draft.  threw for a lot of yards in college.  his TD/INT wasnt great though.  threw a lot of picks.

Here is a highlight clip of him with the Eagles...

his protection in the NFL seems superior to what he had in college.  Cant see it in the highlights but the few Eagles games I've seen, they him have dink and dunk a fair amount.  West coast underneath passes and then throw over the top.

Has he improved on his weaknesses from college on his own?  Which from a scouting point of view would be dumb luck since you cant predict that.  Has Chip Kelly brought out the best in him from a coaching point of view?  Or perhaps are the coaches calling plays that suit his strengths?

He looks like a good fit in that system. One thing I noticed Sunday night is how many times he had guys literally wide open.

ding ding

Put Foles on most other teams, including the jags, and he'd be highly unimpressive.

Chip Kelly factor.

lol the Chip Kelly factor. I've been saying Foles was a legit QB pre-Chip.

Kelly has done nothing special this season is pretty standard for the Eagles they return most of their core from the last few years when they had similar records, outside of the 1 down year of having 4 wins. What Chip has really done is maintain the status quo so far in Philly. Now if they go on a deep playoff run then maybe we could talk about a Chip Kelly factor. Until then any talk of a Chip Kelly factor trying to discredit the success of Nick Foles is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt at trying to prove you're not the notorious flip flopper you are kid.

Except he hasn't been playing like a legit QB until united with Kelly...

Barkley was drafted injured. His shoulder was more of an issue than anyone (football fans) knew at the time of his drafting. It was still an issue as of camp. As far as I know it could still be an issue.

Foles is average. Kelly is working wonders with that roster whose best WR is Riley friggin COOPER this year....(with Maclin out since the beginning)  As another poster in the thread alluded to...Kelly's system has receivers running wide open on many plays....and these aren't exactly AJ Green and Megatron level WR....
