NYC hospitals were never overrun, and Trump sent the Comfort hospital ship to help with any overflow. It was barely used.

The intensive care beds in NYC came close to running out, but didn't. The patients sent back to nursing homes no longer needed intensive care, and could have been put in regular hospital beds, in the Comfort, or in one of (at least) two emergency overflow facilities. They could also have been moved to hospitals in other parts of the state.

If you want to claim Trump should have done some things the CDC didn't recommend, then I'll agree with you, but don't try to claim that anyone else would have done them.

If you want to point out a specific action by Trump that went against the advice the CDC experts were giving at the time I'd like to hear it. Please provide dated links.

So what you're saying, to be clear, is that President Trump sat down with a Sharpie, read those reports and blacked out the portions of the document he didn't want sent out. It wasn't the guidelines (or the watering them down) that had anything to do with this past week's spike. To make that claim is a flat-out lie. The governors all has access to the full document nearly two month's ago.

And "scientifically-backed guidelines" have been all over the place since this started. There was no scientific consensus. That's because this was an unknown quantity. In fact it still is. Everyone has been shooting blind. Some countries have locked down, some haven't. We're still not even sure if the lock down was worth it. More people may die because of the lock down than the lives saved from it.
