Mariota was the favorite to be picked by the Texans according to report
|
Lance Zierlein of Sports Talk 790 in Houston believes Oregon redshirt sophomore QB Marcus Mariota would have been the favorite for the Houston Texans at pick No. 1. Obviously Mariota will not be entering the draft, but it is a noteworthy statement nonetheless. Teddy Bridgewater and Mariota don't have very many similarities, with the former spending plenty of time under center and displaying great eye level and pocket movement. Mariota is more impressive in the pocket than given credit for, but he has more ball carrying experience and was asked to make quicker reads. We show less advertisements to registered users. Dude looked totally lost against Stanford, Arizona, and Oregon State. He needs another year .....

Is it possible this could mean they put off drafting a quarterback to pick Marcus Mariota next year?
That would be stupid because they have the same quarterback situation we do - none of them are good enough to be full-time starters. But it would sure make the vast majority of board members very happy if they don't select Teddy Bridgewater.
Rumor has it that Mariota may change his mind.

Quote:Rumor has it that Mariota may change his mind. And they have already interviewed Lovie Smith. I honestly would not be surprised if they went with a Clowney and switched to a 4-3.
I hope he changes his mind and declares. mariota, luck, bortles, carr, bridgewater; 4 of the 5 in one division would be nice.
texans would either go mariota/teddy jags teddy/carr titans carr/bortles We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Ehh, the team is turning around either way. We'll be ok. Bortles/Carr/Manziel/Bridgewater... whoever works.

Quote:Rumor has it that Mariota may change his mind. He recently went to the draft advisory board, but he still says that he's going back. It wouldn't surprise if he changed his mind though. Quote:How accurate is the draft advisory board usually? They're usually conservative with their estimates.
Quote:And they have already interviewed Lovie Smith. I honestly would not be surprised if they went with a Clowney and switched to a 4-3. I like Lovie Smith as a coach, but I figure they're getting the Rooney rule out of the way with an obvious candidate. Long term, I'd be more afraid of Mariota on the Texans than Bridgewater.

No one knows who anyone was going to pick, or will pick. The evaluation is just beginning in most respects.

Quote:He recently went to the draft advisory board, but he still says that he's going back. It's silly for Mariota to go back at this point. He's being pegged as a top 2 pick. Why go back and risk being Matt Barkley'd? He'd be the 2nd best QB in next year's draft as well. There's no point in going back.
