South Carolina just beat Clemson

FSU's best win just lost to the 4th(or 5th) best SEC team.
Do you think the winner of the FSU-Ohio St game will have a big asterisk by their name? ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The winner of the National Championship Game wouldn't have an asterisk from my perspective. The Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl in the 2012 season but lost to the eventual 4-12 Philadelphia Eagles in the regular season. That loss certainly shouldn't diminish the Ravens ultimate 2012 season accomplishment. The team that earns its way to the pinnacle deserves the Championship regardless of the specific opponent it lost to in the regular season. If FSU or Ohio State finishes with a perfect record, they deserve the accolades that goes with the accomplishment.
No more than any other national champion from the BCS era. FSU has earned their spot in the National Title game. OSU will have earned their way if they beat MSU next week. The BCS is what it is. There's a reason this is the last year of it. Until the playoff system next year this is what you have to deal with. There have been plenty of seasons where the best team in the country hasn't necessarily won the title. FSU will win it this year, and they absolutely deserve it, as much as I hate to admit it. I think they are the best team in the country.

Yes it will. Everyone knows that FSU and Ohio State are not the best two teams in the country. FSU might be the best team but if they beat OSU in the title game no one will believe it.
Quote:FSU's best win just lost to the 4th(or 5th) best SEC team. That was a rivalry game. It's hard to write anything into that win other than one rival beat the other.

well going by the logic of the original poster, Ohio State shouldn't even show up because they almost lost to Michigan and Michigan State beat the Michigan by a larger margin so why bother playing the game? Whoever wins the Championship will be the number one team in the nation and there will be nothing by their name in the history book.
Quote: There have been plenty of seasons where the best team in the country hasn't necessarily won the title. Well thats even more true when you have a playoff system. Best team almost never wins the Super Bowl anymore. However in this case, we may as well have the undefeated MAC and CUSA champs playing for the title game. Maybe a quirk in the schedule but FSU and Ohio St have essentially played nobody. Each of them has one solid win and thats it. And even that solid win doesnt look that impressive after this weekend. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff. FSU
Pitt: 6-6 Nevada: 4-8 Bethune-Cookman: 10-3 Boston College: 7-5 Maryland: 7-5 Clemson: 10-2 NC State: 3-9 Miami: 9-3 Wake Forest: 4-8 Syracuse: 6-6 Idaho: 1-11 UF: 4-8 (ouch) Duke: 10-2 OSU Buffalo: 8-4 San Diego State: 7-5 California: 1-11 Florida A&M: 3-9 Wisconsin: 9-3 Northwestern:5-7 Iowa: 8-4 Penn State: 7-5 Purdue: 1-11 Illinois: 4-8 Indiana: 5-7 Michigan: 7-5 Michigan State: 11-1 Looking at both these schedules I'd say that the strength is about the same. The only advantage I'd give FSU is that they will play 3 good teams and OSU will only play 2. Either way they will both have been tested before the big game, no asterisk required. Can't wait for a playoff system. |
