Mike Tomlin: Dirtiest Coach in the Game

I hope the league fines him for this. Apparently, there is a rule in the NFL that should interference on a play happen; the ref can actually take the ball and give the other team a free touchdown. Just like baseball with fan interference. Except this time it involved a HC.

What makes it even more unclassy is the fact that after the play Tomlin was smirking about it. I'm glad we beat him in the playoffs back in 2007.

I dont think he is a dirty HC, but he should be fined though.

When I think dirty I think of the tacks and coaches like the Mullet.

At least Tomlin didn't take a swing at the returner, like his predecessor did.....

It was one play. If you want to call Mike Tomlin a dirty coach because of one kickoff return, call every player who was ever flagged for tirpping dirty.

I want to know why no flag was thrown on the play. Tomlin stood in front of an official, so a flag should have been thrown on his head.

As much as I want to beat on Tomlin, too, I am going to give him the BOTD here based on the still picture I saw (I didn't see it live or even a replay yet). Tomlin himself was in great danger- the still picture shows him clearly with a foot inbounds and looking away from the play as Jones streaks toward him. Maybe he was looking at the video boards, IDK.

The runner or one of the pursuers could have plowed into him and injured him severely as he wasn't even looking at the play. Maybe it's different on the replay and I'll get a look at it sometime and change my mind.

I'm pretty sure I saw Tomlin peering back at the runner right before he was tackled. Maybe he was smirking because he realized that he nearly got run-over, but I don't think that there is anything constructive about it either.

Tomlin was looking at the video board. He said he always does during kickoff returns. But he had to know while looking at it where his right foot was because if you watch a play on the jumbotron and the runner is near your sideline, you see the white paint that borders the field. No way does he get BOTD for that one.

How he wasn't flagged I'll never understand. I understand he was looking at the jumbo tron, but there is zero excuse to be standing in the field of play when you know the ball is coming your way. Ironic that he was watching the tron specifically get a better look at the play and then was in the way

I will never believe that excuse. If a jumbotron is better than the sideline, he should just work upstairs where his assistants have TVs.

ESPN First Take accurately described it as bush league. I lost respect for Mike " Cliche machine" Tomlin.

Semi related to dirty coaching....Jason Kidd "accidentally" spilled something on the court to try and help his team out

It was obviously intentional and I would be very surprised if he didn't get an invoice from the league offices. Then again it is Pittsburgh so you never know if the league will slap their golden boys on the wrist.

I want to hear what Dean Blandino says about this. Does he agree with Cris Collinsworth that incident was enough to award a free touchdown to the Ravens? Why didn't the official standing there see an obvious penalty and throw his flag?

You can see, in the replay, M. Tomlin's eyes looking around his right shoulder. He's facing opposite the returner, and his head turns toward the field. Tomlin is a pro.; he isn't going to be that close to the field unless it's on purpose. He was on the field during a a kick return? Wanting to watch it through the replay monitor is no excuse for a total disregard of the current play.

I think it's intentional and should be punished as such. What's the difference when a player makes a helmet-to-helmet tackle, gets fined, and says it was an accidental? Fine'em I say

Would someone please let us in one this secret list - you know, the one which shows all the "protected" players and teams - the "golden boys".

It seems to grow and shrink simultaneously.

I finally got to see it and JW is right, he doesn't deserve the BOTD. The Deadspin film over on PFT shows him clearly establishing his right foot and sliding his left over quite deliberately. He knew exactly what position he was taking. Dirty rotten cheater. Is he even a good coach? He's took Cowher's team over and has run it down, winning only on Cowher's leftover (much like Gruden did with Dungy's Bucs in '02.

But I digress, time to go watch commercials, I mean Monday Night Football. Seahawks look unbeatable, now 17-0.
