 Yesterday's win in Chicago felt like a playoff game.     Much like in the previous 2 games that basically went down to the wire  ( loss vs. Bengals,  win vs. Cowboys ),  this game had a multitude of twists and turns.    Nick Fairley went from a goat,  after a foolish roughing the passer penalty early on the Bears final drive,  to a football hero when he stuffed Matt Forte in the backfield on the Bears second 2 PT conversion attempt.    It was an emotional win.    It was fitting that Calvin Johnson caught two TD passes in this game and one was upheld by instant replay.     Especially when considering the TD and likely victory was taken away from the Lions at Soldier Field in 2010 because of one of the worst officiating calls in NFL history.    Hence,  this became the Lions first win in Chicago since 2007,   Megatron's rookie season.     The Lions now have swept the Bears and hence hold the head to head Division Tie Breaker.

 

 Plenty can happen from now to the end of the season.   The key for the Lions is to stay relatively healthy and remain focused.   There are a number of games coming up that the Lions will be favored in.   How this team handles being the team to beat in the NFC North will go along way in whether the Lions win the division.    There are no easy games in this league.

Tying this discussion into a Jaguars theme,   at one point in yesterday's game in Chicago,  there were 4 former Jaguars on the field when the Lions were on Defense:    CB Rashean Mathis,  Nickel Back Don Carey,   DT C.J. Mosley,  and DE Austen Lane.    Carey came off the bench after rookie CB Darius Slay struggled mightily and Brandon Marshall and co.    Slay is going through major growing pains this season.     Carey more than held his own and made two outstanding tackles in this game.     As for Mathis,   I don't even want to think where the Lions would be if the team didn't sign him back in August.     Certainly,  this team wouldn't be 6-3.     Considering this was Lane's first regular season action in the NFL this season,   in limited action,   he performed better than I expected.   He even had a QB pressure.

 

 Unfortunately,   Montell Owens injured his left knee again early in the game.    This was Owens'  first regular season action after being on Short Term I.R.      Jim Schwartz mentioned today that he thinks it will be a short term injury.   Hopefully,  that will prove to be the case.

No it couldn't be interpreted that as that whatsoever. The quote is 'doesn't' for one. Also why would we the lion himself be dead after he's killed his prey??..survivors guilt and then he killed himself?


On topic..I do like the Lions and wish you all the best this year d6 i do love seeing stafford sling in to Calvin and it's good to see Stafford looking as comfortable throwing to other receivers this year.

You make an excellent point regarding Matthew Stafford being comfortable throwing to other receivers.    For the most part this season,   Stafford has not forced the action.    He's taking what the Defense is giving him.    One of the few times that Stafford tried to do too much was a 3rd Down throw in the 4th QTR in Chicago the other day.   Stafford tried to connect with Calvin Johnson between defenders instead of taking the close to sure thing check down throw to RB Joique Bell.    The end result is Stafford overthrew Megatron and S Chris Conte came down with an interception.   That directly led to 3 points for the Bears.   

 

Having mentioned that play,  Matthew Stafford did a great job putting it behind him.  Like usually is the case with Stafford,  he plays at a very high level when the game is on the line.   Stafford's throws on the TD drive that made the score 21-13 illustrate his excellent ability and him being a clutch player.   W/o question,  Stafford is the best Lions QB since at least the 1950's.   While the Lions Offensive Line has done a great job protecting Stafford this season,  except in the loss at Green Bay,   Stafford's quick release,  pocket presence,   and awareness of situations has contributed greatly to Stafford only being sacked 10 times in the first 9 games.
