Titans are going to the playoffs this year

Quote:Um... What?

I mean I can understand you thinking they may not win the division, but "far from winning the division"?

They are literally tied for first with 4 games left.

It is a three-way tie, so there actually are 12 games to worry about.

Good thing they gave Tennessee 2 losses then.

There's actually only 10 games to worry about, since Houston still plays Tenn and Indy head to head.

Tenn needs some help because they are sitting at a 1-3 division record. They have lost twice to Indy and once already to Houston.

They cannot expect to get swept by both Indy and Houston and then win any tie-breakers. Tenn is gonna have to finish with a better overall really order than those 2 teams, which might not be that easy.

I think Indy will take the AFCS crown, if they can beat Houston at Lucas Oil Stadium this week and the Jags in week 17.

If Indy loses either to Houston or Jax, then Houston will take the crown.

Indy is starting to look better. They've won 3 of the last 4 games (with the only loss to PITT when Andrew Luck didn't play).

They still have to play @MINNESOTA and @OAK though, so they need to beat the Texans and Jags most likley.

The Jets made the Colts look better than they are last night.

The Jets and Patriots are division rivals. What we saw last night was just another game for both teams.

The Colts have won 3/4:

@GB

vs TENN

@NYJ (who played strong against NE)

and only lost against PITT when Luck didn't play

*The Colts aren't an upper-echelon team. But, they're starting to look pretty good lately.

This week vs Houston is a VERY big game for both teams. Houston has historically struggled in INDY, so we'll see what happens.

I don't think you know what "far from" means.

Jagherd, what makes you think how New York lost to New England means anything? The teams are rivals like Pittsburgh and Baltimore. If the draft was tomorrow, they would own the #5 pick.

Here are the remaining schedules for all three teams:

TEXANS

at Colts

Jaguars

Bengals

at Titans

COLTS

Texans

at Vikings

at Raiders

Jaguars

TITANS

Broncos

at Chiefs

at Jaguars

Texans

Tennessee's schedule is daunting with only one losing team left. Houston gets the benefits of having no winning teams remaining and not meeting D'Qwell Jackson next week. So the schedules favor Houston and almost guarantee Tennessee will miss the playoffs - on paper only, of course.

The Titans improved their playoff chances with a win today, right?

Wrong. Both the Colts and Texans are 7-6.

Wrong.  The colts are 6-7, therefore the titans improved their playoff chances by virtue of being 1 game ahead of the colts, whom they were tied with last week.

The Colts and Texans cannot both be 7-6. They played against each other today, and one of them lost.

Texans 7-6

Titans 7-6

Colts 6-7

Titans and Texans are 7-6 with another meeting scheduled.

NFL.com shows the Texans have a perfect division record.

Texans have clinched tiebreakers over both Colts and Titans with the win today. The Colts via head-to-head-sweep, and the Titans due to division record: the Texans are 4-0, so face 4-2 at worst; the Titans are 1-3, can reach 3-3 at best and can not claim a head-to-head sweep since they've already lost to Houston.

If Tennessee fails to keep pace with the Texans in Weeks 15 and 16, then the week 17 showdown will not matter.

Colts are close to elimination. They're effectively two games behind the Texans with three to play plus they need to pick up a game on Tennessee. This is a big problem as Houston's toughest game is against Tennessee.

What if Tennessee wins and Houston loses both of the next two games?

Tenn must finish with a better overall record than the Texans. It's still possible, as they are currently tied at overall records.

But, they MUST finish at least a game ahead of them. As the above poster said, the Titans cannot tie the Texans' record and win the division.

The Jaguars have nothing do to with the Titans getting a top 10 pick.
