Things to consider for the 2014 NFL Draft

#1

We argue over which quarterback prospect is overrated, underrated, has the higher ceiling, lower ceiling, taller, shorter, which QB is a product of a system, which QB lacks talent, which QB has a surplus of talent, and who they are compared to. Two things are certain: the Jaguars will be picking a QB and the Jaguars are picking top-3.

1. The draft is 7 months away. Interviews, in depth film study, NFL Combines, and individual workouts for every QB prospect under consideration including Bridgewater, Mariota, Hundley, Manziel, Boyd, etc.

2. Bowl Season will satisfy strength of schedule advocates. Bridgewater, Mariota, Hundley, Manziel, Boyd, will all have a shot at playing in a BCS Bowl. If not, they'll be playing for a meaningful game against good competition. Mariota might even be playing for the title!

3. Johnny Manziel is a first round talent, deal with it. Manziel will not be available in the second. He won't go Top 15, but he won't be available at the #33/34/35 pick. He is the more patient in the pocket, a better passer, and has shown better footwork. Not saying I want him on this team, just that he is a solid prospect

4. A winner will separate himself. Between these 8 months, someone will rise to the top. Bridgewater vs Mariota seems to be the favorites, and I believe that Dave Caldwell will identify the best fit for this team and hopefully he will be the best player

5. Every prospect has gotten much better from the previous season! These guys are improving! I'm sure in the months leading up to the draft that they will be refining and working on their games as well.

6. The QB Class is so deep and we have a surplus of picks. I can see that we will get our Kirk Cousins if we get our Robert Griffin in the 1st.

We're in good shape

This class is not deep, there are only 1 maybe 2 qbs who can come in and make an impact from the jump. Most are developmental talent who are years away from starting. Don't let the hype cloud your vision. Also second pick wasted on a qb is an absolute waste, you fill needs first rather than worry about back ups.

I think at this point, you know if a guy is "the one" or not without going through the combine stuff and bowl games.

Draft Bridgewater. Then use the next 9 picks mostly for the lines, a RB, and a TE

This class is deep. QB value in the 5th round is better than there was QB value in the 3rd last year

Are you talking about all the read option qbs that are coming out this year and the weak armed game manager mcCarron and woefully inconsistent Murry. Get out of here with that foolishness. This class is not deep, anyone who believes otherwise is too busy listening to pundits than watching games and using analytic skills.

Not true. There would be no NFL combine if teams did not need it.

No no no no no no no no to Hundley and Mettenberger. Our first pick will be Bridgewater/Mariota/Clowney/Barr (if.Clowney/Barr then we will trade back up for QB..all the extra picks we have will be used as ammo in this scenario)

The first thing to consider about the 2014 draft is already being discussed in other forums: which teams can help us get the #1 pick by winning or losing.

Let's flash back to 2011 and you would have said the same thing about Colin Kaepernick and Andy Dalton I am guessing.

It is easy to downplay the talent of quarterbacks who attended Nevada and TCU. Even now with the quarterback at Louisville, people are complaining about him being in a week conference.

BTW Kaepernick and Dalson were picked near the top of Round 2.
