Most of us wanted a pass rusher relatively early in the draft, so I thought it'd be interesting to see who has done what so far.

 

Leader in rookie sacks: Chris Jones DT Patriots with 3.5

 

 

Now for the higher profile rookie pass rushers:

 

Ziggy Ansah is 2nd among rookies with sacks at 3, but also has 2 FF

Keke Mingo - 3 sacks

Dion Jordan - 1 sack

Sheldon Richardson - 2.5 sacks, 1 FF

Bjoern Werner (played 4 games, now out due to injury) - .5 sack

Margus Hunt - (Only active 1 game) 0 sacks.

I'm betting that Mingo ends the season with the most. He gets to play that banged up Pittsburgh line!

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

The rookies have been exactly as I thought they would honestly. The rookies that we thought would be good (Mingo, Jordan, Ansah) have been good, or at least flashed what we expected to see because they were admittedly raw. The rookies that we thought would be bad (Werner and Jarvis Jones) have been very bad. 

 

Ok I shouldn't say we in the bad category because the local nutsos that can't overlook proximity laughably thought those two would be good when it was painfully obvious Jarvis was too small and unathletic to be a first rounder and Werner couldn't bend. Oh well.

I'm gonna go ahead and eat me some crow. I was all for drafting any one of these guys, fully expecting any of them to be around 10 sack a year guys. Which doesn't look likely.

 

I'll stick to watching QBs .

dude, its very rare that a rookie pass rusher puts up any sort of serious numbers. Jevon Kearse's are rare. 

 

Tony Brackens became a really good pass rusher for us, and only registered 3.5 QB sacks his rookie season.

I got the impression that you were trying to make the point that not many of the rookie pass rushers are doing all that much. Thus, my response.

Even though Bengals LT Andrew Whitworth got the best of Ziggy Ansah when matched up last week,    I'm very pleased with the way Ansah has performed overall this season.     For a player that didn't even play organized football until 2010,   Ansah's football instincts are very impressive.   He's further along than I thought he would be going into the season.     The physical ability is apparent and the effort reminds me of what KVB provided in previous seasons.     There have been a few plays that Ansah has made that didn't show up on the stat sheet but were an important part of the respective games.      Even with some more growing pains likely,   as long as Ansah stays relatively healthy,    I think he has a very bright future.

In the Jets games I've seen this season,   the player that has impressed me as much as anyone for them is Sheldon Richardson.   He's a key reason why that team is 4-3 after 7 games.    This is a player who has the ability to be a differential factor in any Defensive system.    He's extremely explosive.      If the draft was done over,    Richardson would probably go noticeably higher than pick # 13.    The Darrelle Revis trade is looking very good for the Jets.

Yes.  Richardson is the real deal.  He looks very good for a rookie DE.

A case can be made that this has been Rex Ryan's coaching job,  at least through 7 games.    That's a team that's shown resiliency.      Sheldon Richardson's fast development,  despite leaving Missouri after his Junior season,   is a credit to Ryan and some of his Defensive Coaches,   as well as to the player. 

 

 While I think the Jets will be overmatched on the road day against a Bengals team I picked to go to the Super Bowl before the season started,   even a 4-4 at the midway point would be encouraging for the Jets as they move into the 2nd half of the season.       If the Jets somehow pull off an upset in Cincinnati,    they are a major playoff contender in the AFC.
