PSA Microsoft Yanks Windows RT 8.1 Update

Microsoft Yanks Windows RT 8.1 Update
Uh-oh — trouble already with Windows RT 8.1.

On Saturday, Microsoft temporarily pulled the update from the Windows Store following reports that it was bricking some devices on which it was installed. This just two days after it was officially released.

Great to hear. Like an idiot I already updated my computer. It took forever, too. I'm talking hours, not minutes...

RT update has nothing to do with your computer. It's for the tablets.

Hours? Really? You need more power my man! It took forever to download but it was over in like 20 minutes for me.

I've got a pretty good computer (8 GB ram, Six-core 3.3 GHz processor, dedicated graphics card with 1GB of graphics memory, etc.) and 58down/38up internet connection and it still took hours for me.

It's probably just server usage. Even Microsoft can have problems when you have millions of people downloading multiple GB.

I'm an advocate for rolling out updates in portions instead of making a psa therefore you can avoid overloads like this.
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

I believe that PSA means "Public Service Announcement" and has nothing to do with the size of the update. Microsoft didn't make a "PSA", Drifter did. It's a fairly common thing on Internet message boards letting you know if something went wrong with an update or a reminder that an update is occurring.

I was being sarcastic with the "PSA" comment.

Don't you just hate it when new versions of the products you own come out? It's like in one swoop your pride of ownership is striped away like a sail in a hurricane.

An Apple-ite shouldn't be razzing anyone about the cost of anything. Apple products are ridiculously overpriced.

I know, that's why he was finally able to do it. The ipad keyboard is only like $89, the Microsoft ones are $119/$129 for the backlit versions.

Is that sig a Gabbert quote? lol

So? The iPad is more expensive than the Surface by more than $40.

No, it's from the song Pain Redefined by Disturbed. Funny joke though. Ha. Haha. Ha.

I like the surface tablets, but the shop is lacking, wish it had more support.  Which means the surface pro is good, but hell if I'm going to pay that much on a tablet.

Enjoying the 8.1 update, been using windows 8 since the release client, it gets a lot of hate for no reason.

The app argument is overrated. The real problem is games. People want to play Candy Crush, Despicable Me, Plants vs Zombies 2, other games not in the Windows Store. Productivity wise, W8/RT have superior software, and both have a browser with full adobe flash which means if you wanted you could use all of Google Services aside from the Chrome Store. Multimedia wise Windows has all the important radio, video streaming services such as TuneIn, iHeart, Slacker, Amazon Video, Pandora etc etc. I'm not sure what else one would want. I have a Note 3 (lovely device BTW) and have a ton of Android games but I don't play most of them. What MS really needs to start doing is leveraging their Xbox Platform. They need to have some incentive (if they don't already) to either port their game to the Windows Store or build a mobile version that can be used on W8/RT/WP8. Might also help if they had some support from Valve's Steam Platform, but the problem with that is Steam is only x86 and not available on ARM.
