What If We Miss Out On Teddy Bridgewater?
|
Obviously, David Caldwell knows he needs to draft a quarterback in May 2014 no matter what our pick number in the first round is. He believes in building through drafts so I would not expect him to trade up even with two picks in the fourth and fifth rounds. Assuming we do not get the top pick and he chooses to not trade up, which eligible QB would you want? Would you start with a different position in Round 1 and take a quarterback in Round 2? We can still get one better than Blaine Gabbert at #30-something.
I don't know the names of very many players outside Columbus and Gainesville, but I do know eligible quarterbacks include Johnny Manziel and the FSU guy. At OSU both Kenny Guiton and Braxton Miller are eligible, but I don't know if Miller wants to stay for his senior year. I am sure you can name more junior and senior quarterbacks. It will likely be Mariota or Hundley unfortunately.
No matter how badly the Clowney Kidz want the sloth dynamo.
TEST
I'd go Mariota if Teddy was gone. Teddy is by far the most polished in the class, but Mariota has all the measurables and (unlike Gabbert) stats that can back them up.

2015 NFL Draft - Analyzing Targets www.jungle.jaguars.com/index.php?/topic/7892-2015-nfl-draft-analyzing-targets/
Well, I really don't think Bradley or Caldwell will allow that to happen. They know the potential this offense has with at least an average QB.
Imagine it. The Jaguars go 0-16, and get the Manning child Teddy Bridgewater with the #1 overall pick. We then proceed to play for a wild-card spot in the AFCS, since the Texans are going to poop. Cecil Shorts just happens to breakout the year before our destined 20-year HC and GM take over the team, and the only relevant pick from our last GM on the team has the talent to be the best WR in the league. (Blackmon, for you slow ones). It can be a movie. Quote:I think Bridgewater at 3 is better value than Mack at 3, yes. <div> LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Mariota or Hundley. Leaning more towards Mariota. He's got talent.
I'd be pretty upset if we missed out on Teddy, though.
I can't see us getting any worse than 2nd overall, so if we are #2 and Teddy goes 1st hopefully we can trade a nice sum for someone to move up for Clowney.
Jameis Winston is not draft eligible. I'd take Bridgewater then mariota or Boyd after. I think no matter what first round pick we have, we will get someone to hang our hopes on.

I have this bad feeling that they win several of those meaningless games at the end of this season to screw everything up. We show less advertisements to registered users. Its a good thing that TEN and IND are our last 2 games. Hopefully both of them are still fighting for the division title.

I actually think it could be a bad thing that the Colts are so far ahead right now....we need them to lose a few. We don't need the Colts being able to rest their starters in week 17.....The Jags could be stupid enough to win that game if that happens. It would be a repeat of the OJ Simpson/ Leroy Keyes thing. :pinch:

If the Jags miss out on Bridgewater, I would then just try to trade down a lot, accumulate extra picks, and then go the Cousins/ Mallett route. Toss a pick to either New England or Washington for one of those guys, and also take a developmental QB in the draft as well.

Funny enough, we need the Ravens to up their game so that the Colts are playing for a Bye in the final week. Wonder if Caldwell had that under consideration when he traded Monroe. Of course the Patriots will still be fighting for that seed too, but they seem to have been on the decline lately. Losing to the Bengals and all. Too bad the Texans didn't sign Josh Freeman though. But winning that game might not doom us if the other teams are still behind us for the pick. But winning against backups never feels as good as winning against starters.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Quote: Well....obviously....if the Jags have a couple game cushion for the top pick at that point, then it won't matter... I don't see that happening though. Quote:I'll believe it when I see it. You don't want the team to win "several meaningless games" at the end of the year, but you've already stated Bradley should be fired in an 0-16 season. You've set it up nicely for yourself to complain either way. How does this work, exactly?
On Wisconsin.

Give me Hundley over Mariota (assuming they both declare). I think he will be more successful in the NFL.
