Iraq War veteran denied university's lottery win, so rival school pays up At the unlikely intersection of collegiate athletics, military affairs and community altruism, you’ll find Matt Zajac. KVIA 7 reports the Army veteran, who lost both legs in Iraq in 2007, at first seemed to win a $2,000 prize after his name was drawn from a lottery during last week’s New Mexico State University football game against San Diego State. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/10/06/ira...latestnews ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Sounds like the school followed the rules in place for the contest. The fact that he is a war veteran makes for a catchy headline though.

What he did for our country is amazing, but the school followed the rules. You had to be in attendance and he wasnt.
Nice gesture by New Mexico but I don't fault New Mexico State for following the rules in place.

NMS had to follow the rules so others who may have been disqualified for non-attendenace don't protest. That said, NMS could have donated the $2,000 to him independent of the winning ticket.
