Marcedes Hurt Again....(((((((Shocker)))))))

#1

per rotoworld...

Marcedes Lewis - TE - Jaguars

Marcedes Lewis is out indefinitely after aggravating his calf strain.

Lewis lasted three snaps before pulling the muscle that he originally hurt prior to the second preseason game. "It's tough," he said. "It's the same thing. It's hard to even talk about it. I've got to let it run its course and stop trying to be Superman and come back earlier than I should." Clay Harbor will get some looks as the Jags pass-catching tight end, but isn't even a TE2 with inept Blaine Gabbert at the controls.

....and this colossal waste of money is someone that Caldwell singled out as one of the "building blocks" going forward. :pinch:

Gives me pause regarding Caldwell's decision making...because it was clear to most Jags fans that actually have been paying attention that Marcedes was overrated and should have been shown the door last offseason.

Hopefully its just a blip on Caldwell's resume.

He can go be "Superman" on another team next year, this is ridiculous.

Marcedes is a good blocker.

Wallbash receiver.

I wanted a guy to replace him last year in the draft, but as of right now I'd rather give some combo of Harbor & DJ Williams & Reisner a chance.

He wont be on this squad next year.  Caldwell wont even attempt to resign him.

You can & should be able to find "blocking specialists" at TE for a fraction of the cost of Marcedes' in terms of both pay & draft choice.

Nope, I don't see it. Time to move on. I was all for keeping him this year and seeing what he did, but it's clearly time to go.

Another example of the previous regimes desperation. One above average year followed by outlandish contract.

I don't see him back next year either. The offense is going to look completely different next year, personnel-wise.

Time to pack him off to the IR list.

Is it possible to trade Maurice Jones-Drew and M. Lewis for a great qb and a draft pick?

What a huge waste of money! How much will he get paid for playing 6 or 7 plays this season?

Only you are stupid enough to proclaim a player useless because he gets an outlier injury. He has been healthy for the vast majority of his career.

Want to talk about his play? Fine, he hasnt been great, but remember he has BLAINE GABBERT as his QB. He cant throw himself the ball.

Id like to see what he can do with an actual QB playing before we throw him to the side.

So you're saying he hasn't been a waste of money since he signed that contract?

But you're getting all huffy at TMD for no reason. You actually agree with him in a sense that Lewis hasn't lived up to that monster contract. The only way to get rid of that contract is to cut him at the end of the season.

Cut Lewis after the season, find an offensive minded TE (apparently they are everywhere these days) and move on.

Jinjo he dropped quite a few TDs with Blaine throwing him the ball 2011 was especially bad Marcedes can't throw himself the ball but he is responsible for catching it

To be fair, receivers are caught off guard when Gabbert actually makes a decent pass

Sorry, but Lewis proved himself useless after he got his big payday. He went from TD Magnet to Stone Hands in one off-season. He hasn't gotten much better, and as others have said already, you can get a blocking TE for less money. Heck, you can take a page from Coughlin's handbook and just play an extra O-Lineman as a blocking TE.
