Thank You Gene Smith

That's your product on the field.

Khan should file a civil suit against him and Weaver for selling him this turd disguised as a NFL team.

Honestly, the product isn't as awful as we think.  IT's SIMPLY THE QB.  HE REALLY MAKES EVERYONE AROUND HIM ATROCIOUS.

Success is a journey, not a destination.  Go all out Mighty Jaguars.

LOL.  Literally half of the players on the field had nothing to do with Gene Smith.

Are you saying it's not his fault that this team sucks donkey dung?

The half that counts(or doesn't count, depends on how you look at it) is directly tied to that moron!

Sure they do.  Gene Smith left this team in such a state that it could not be fixed in a single offseason.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Obviously Gene drafted poorly and dealt with free agency even worse.   Everyone knows that.   There are bad players at key positions because of him - but its only half of his product on the field.

And the reason the other half stinks is because we had to replace even worse Gene players...

I'd also like to thank Shack Harris for his dedication to bad drafting, as well as all the OCs that believe that some plays are like the cowbell and can never have enough, and the head coaches...you know who you are, that stressed that no matter the down and distance we have to establish the run game.

Seriously Caldwell inherited a mess of a team roughly 10 years in the making. It's likely going to take some time to get back to winning.

Yup as bad as Henne is, the offense moves with him out there and looks somewhat like a NFL team, with Gabbert out there everything just falls apart and we look terrible

The QBs are bad, we can all agree, but the whole product is every bit as bad as we think.  Cecil had a TD and two of those ints in his hands.  The rest of the receivers can't get a foot of separation on their man.  MJD has somebody on him in the back field on every run play, etc.

The whole offense is horrible.

Lots of people to thank for this mess. The pursuit of marginal talent and awful free agents is pretty high on the list. I blame Hugh Douglas.

Henne was not great in Miami, but he wasn't this poor most of the time.  It lends to the credibility that it's more than just the quarterbacks, although we all know the blame falls on quarterback, head coach, GM not necessarily in that order.

Gene failed us fine, no one denies that, but this product TODAY this is Caldwell team. Not saying it can't get better ( I don't see how it could be any worse) but let's not make excuses for the start this time.

most of the HORRIBLE O-line -    Gene

QB   -   Gene

Pass Rushers  -  Gene

Those are the biggest culprits in my mind.  Caldwell can't really be judged at this point since the rookies need time to develop, but I'd say he's looking pretty smart with the following:

FA:

SenDerrick Marks

W. Blackmon

Alan Ball

Clay Harbor

draft:

Dwayne Gratz

McCray

Cyprien

maybe Sanders

All of those ^^ guys are either playing at a high level compared to Gene's counterparts or they are adapting quickly as rookies.  What exactly are we supposed to be blaming Caldwell for?  This isn't a Caldwell team or a Smith team. This is almost a Caldwell team - but it has enough Gene Smith in key areas to ruin it.

It's Caldwell's fault for not overdrafting a marginal QB in a poor draft year? At least we aren't the Rams. They had a 2nd overall pick in the luck/rg 3 class and traded out. At least we will be awful with a better QB class.
