This Guy.....is The Future Of Our Organization

Quote:Why take that chance?  No guarantee "that guy" will be there at 33.

Plus, just go with the better quarterback and call it a day.

Pretty much. Even with the seeming wealth of QBs possibly going in the first and early second if we get the chance to take the highest rated one then do so.

2 of the many possible scenarios:

1. We take Bridgewater and he bombs horribly. Just sucks and never really pans out. Clowney ,Hundley,Mariota etc all do whatever at that point it wouldnt matter. We would have taken the best prospect and no one could blame us for doing so after his college career. We could look back and say at least we went after "the man" and got screwed by fate.

2. We pass on Bridgewater for Hundley,Clowney etc and they themselves fail. This would setup a nightmare where if Bridgewater say turns the Browns around and goes Russel Wilson on the league we would look like the TrailBlazers passing on Jordan for Bowie or the Chargers with Leaf over Manning (even when manning was rated higher).

Id MUCH rather take him and him fail here then sit back and watch him dominate the league for 10-15 years while we get stuck with an alright or subpar 2nd tier QB. Of course we could pass on him and he bombs with the browns or vikings and Clowney/Hundley become Jags All Pros and look like wizards of the draft day but i find it unlikely.

Hell, this isn't even a Manning-Leaf situation in my mind (AKA the age-old safety vs. upside dilemma). Bridgewater is both the safest prospect and the one with the highest upside of any passers available. He's a no-brainer in every possible scenario.

Quote:What if they think they can get a top-10 active QB material at pick #33?

I'll need to look for the article, but I remember a report around draft-time that the Jags turned down some trade offers heading into Round 2 because they had their guy, he was on the board, and they wanted him and refused to risk losing him.

That, to me, signals that Caldwell is the type of GM who would probably not risk waiting until Pick 33 for a QB if he likes the guy.

On Wisconsin.

Quote:The more QBs that come to the top the better for us @ #1.  Think about trading down in the 1st round and bundling picks AND still getting a top notch QB.
Just because there are multiple qb prospects projected to go in the first round (or first round talents) doesn't mean that all of them will pan out to be legitimate franchise, long term solution QBs.  Maybe the 2012 draft class is an exception, but statistics have shown that only 1 in every 5 first round QBs selected have turned out to be franchise QB.  This team is in desperate need of that QB, which is why they need to have as early a pick as possible to select their first choice, and not have to settle for the 2nd or 3rd option because they wanted to get some value in the draft.
