The Starting Lineup. Who Are The Building Blocks Of This Rebuild?

#1

Lets look at players that could be part of the future of the Jaguars

QB: None of them.  Gabbert is Garabge, Henne is Horrible, and Stanzi gets no playing time so that speaks in itself

RB: I still think MJD can be a good player.  This line is giving him 0 running lanes.  I am not judging him on his stats this year because nobody could run behind this line.

LT:  Monroe is a good LT.  He is not elite bue good enough to play at a high level.  Keep him

RG,C,LG:  All of these are gone.  Uche is average, Meester should be retired now, and Rackley is just awful.  I expect Rackley on the bench asap

RT:  Joeckle is playing pretty well right now.  Yes he did have a rough start against KC.  Many people are uneducated and see a blitzer gettting free from his side and blaming him.  More often, it's the TE on his side who missed his block.  He played well against Seattle and starting to show he should be a starter. A big upgrade from Whimper

WR:  If Blackmon can stay out of trouble, Shorts and Blackmon are a good tandem.  Hopefully the supposed "playmakers" Sanders or Robinson adds to this.  I think this team is good at receiver.

TE: I don't know if Lewis will be back.  His cap number is over 6 million and has not produced enough in the passing game. He has yet to play this season but would hope he could provide some kind of receiving threat.  This team needs a deep recieving threat at TE.

DE: Babin will most likely be gone. In his late 30's and his cap number jumps to over 6 million makes that improbable.  Alualu surprisly in actually serviceable. Alualu is a natural 3-4 DE.  He is not a pass rusher but a guy who is strong enough to hold his point in the running game.  Note that most of the big runs against this team have been from the inside.  Mincey has been invisible for MOST of this season. We need atleast 2

DT: I like Marks. Marks will give you a few QB pressures a game. He struggles in the running game.  There isn't another DT on this team worth mentiong. This is a big area of need.

LB: Poz will probably be back.  Hayes is a decent outside lb. Allen stinks. Yes He racks up the tackles after he gets beat.  Allen and Hayes would both be backups on most teams.  Need a upgrade

DB; Cyprien is showing promise.  Yes he does get burned in the passing game but he also makes a few plays a game.  In the last 2 weeks, Cyprien has had 2 forced fumbles including a QB strip/sack.  That is playmaking ability.  Gratz has been very impressive as a rookie too bad his injury has kept him out because this secondary has missed him.  Lowery is ok but brings some veteran leadership.  Another starting CB this secondary could become very good when healthy.

In a nutshell this team has a long ways to go.  If the team is smart and drafts well in combination of getting good FA this could be a quicker turn around.  If the team continues to be frugal in FA and just build through the draft this could be a very long process.

I agree Babin won't be back, but 33 isn't late 30's.

Other than that, I think you pretty much summed up who the nucleus is for the rebuild as of today.  Hopefully we see that list grow as the season progresses.

Offense: Blackmon, Shorts, Sanders, Joeckel. Monroe is a free agent after this year and Joeckel is a natural LT, so I doubt Monroe will stay. Lewis is serviceable.

Defense: Gratz, Cyprien. Maybe Lowery. The DL is really just a bunch of backups other than Babin who is too old to be a building block. Poz is the only starter-quality LB, and his contract is way too expensive.

After the first three games I'm not even sure if Scobee and Anger are safe.

The roster has plenty of holes, however if the Jaguars can shore up the interior of the offensive line and find consistent competent QB play I believe this team can compete as early as next season. We're historically bad on offense because we don't win at the line of scrimmage and don't have QB that is good enough to overcome such a deficiency. I expect the offense to make huge strides next season as it will certainly be the focus of David Caldwell.

Why does everyone think Poz is anything good? He's our worst starting LB at the moment. He racks up tackles that are always 6 yards down field. Hayes and Allen have outplayed him this year. But anyways-

QB: Our QB of the future is playing at Louisville, most likely.

RB/FB: No one we currently have in the roster is our HB of the future. Won't be surprised to see a day 2 pick next year being a RB.

OL: Monroe is good, Joekecl is going to be good. Uche has regressed in the last 2 years. Rackley/Meester probably won't be on the roster next year.

TE: 50/50 if Marcedes is let go in the purge that will eb coming.. All depends if we can find another servicable TE

WR: Set at this position. Cecil/Justin will be very good when we draft our QB next year.

DL: Alualu has played well so far this year. Babin is playing alright, but most likely gone. Branch is meh, but coming off his best game as a pro, IMO. Marks probably wont be resigned, and Miller isn't stopping the run like he was known to do. Desperatly need another starting caliber DE/DT

LB: I'm guessing Poz and Allen are both cut this offseason. Hayes will most likely be a day 1 starter next year. Reynolds is probably our MLB of the future. Need another starting OLB+depth.

CB::Our Brightest spot on defense. Gratz played very good in his short amount of time this year. Ball has outplayed my expectations. McCray played pretty well last yesterday, as did Blackmon. Need another starting CB, but i like our depth here.

S: Cyprien will be a stud if he keeps improving. Lowery is 50/50 on being on the roster next year, but is a solid player. Evans played ok yesterday/ Need Depth at SS.

Building blocks: Monroe, Shorts, Blackmon, Joekecl on offense

Building blocks: Cyprien, Gratz, Alualu on defense.

Biggest need: Inteior OL. Need 2 starting G and a starting C+ depth at both positions.

We will definetly have to get a QB, interior O-Line, D-Line overhaul, TE, and maybe some WR depth to hedge our Blackmon.

Offense: Shorts, Joeckel, Blackmon: I haven't seen enough from Sander or Robinson to be convinced they will be building blocks yet, I'm hopeful but waiting on evidence.

Defense: Cyprien, Gratz, Lowery: I'm more concerned about the defense then the offense, get a decent QB and some help in the center of the line that offense can move the ball. I see no one in the front 7 really sticking around, either age, money or play is a factor across the board, that's a problem.

I don't know if we can move on with MJD either as a starting back.  Simply put it he is just not the same player and has lost a lot of speed but he's still a good power runner.  I know O-Line is playing bad but you can just tell by his body language that the age and the injuries are catching up with him.  I know its asking a lot with all the current needs of this team, but we will need a new feature back in a year or two.

I honestly don't think the team has long-term plans for MJD at this point.  He's playing out his contract.

QB: Not on roster

RB: Not on roster (Robinson will be used as the primary spell back)

WR: Blackmon, Shorts, Ace

TE: Marcedes

OT: Luke/Monroe

OG: Not on roster

C: Not on roster

LEO: Not on roster

DT: Marks, Miller, Deadrick

5 Tech: Not on roster (Alualu has a chance to be retained as a rotational player but ideally not a starter)

LB: Hayes

CB: Gratz, Harris

S: Dwight, Cyp, Evans

These are the only guys I see being here in the 2015 season. May have forgot a few but this is what I came up with off the top of my head.

QB: None.

RB: I still like MJD and think he has some left in the tank, but he will bolt this offseason. Why stick with us when he has been stuck on a loser his whole career? Go to New England or something.

WR: Blackmon, Shorts, Ace

TE: None.

OL: Monroe, Joeckel, maybe Uche

DL: Marks, Miller, Alualu (in this scheme he's fine). We need a young LEO.

LB: Poz

CB: Gratz?

S: Cyprien. Lowery is too injury prone, and Evans is a 6th round pick.

OFF:

Monroe

Joeckel

Shorts

Blackmon

(maybe Sanders - too early to know)

DEF:

Marks

Cyprien

(probably Gratz - still early)

ST:

Scobee / Anger not going anywhere

that's it.
