I'm racking my brain trying to remember the last time I was in a tactical situation. Maybe if I moved to Chicago or Detroit.

Look man, is you want to go tactical first of all you have to look tacticool. How else will you enjoy playing soldier at the gun range?

The flu.

I had a flu shot, about 2 months ago, and still, I now have the flu. Fever, chills, body aches, sore throat, headache, the works. I suppose if there is any redeeming thing about it, this is a good week to stay indoors. But man, this is miserable.

I’ve had exactly one flu shot in the last 10 years, and that was only because my doctor recommended it during an appointment after I mentioned I was traveling out of the country. It was convenient, and billed to my insurance. In all that time I’ve had the flu exactly 0 times. In my opinion, hand washing is much more effective at preventing infection than a $25 shot which inoculates against a flu strain from the previous year.

Type A Influenza, which is not covered in the immunization, is rampant in Northeast Florida right now.

Believe me, I wash my hands religiously, I have a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol in my car, I scrupulously avoid touching my hands to any part of my face without washing them first.   I was just as smug about never getting sick as you appear to be.   But I got sick anyway.

And the flu shot was free.

Is that the really competitive and bossy Influenza, compared to the more laid back type B flu?

Yes, once it gets in charge it runs a rampage over everyone in its path.

I've heard a local law firm has a whole division set up to handle discrimination suits on behalf of the type B's.

As a cancer patient, I am mandated to get them annually. I have never gotten sick from a flu shot. They pump you full of a dead virus. Your body can't tell the difference. Odds are, you already had the virus that you're sick from. It didn't come from the shot.

That's true, you can't get the flu from the flu shot. Some people have mild side effects from the shot that mimic the flu so they think they got the flu from the shot.

The CDC (Center for Disease Control) in Atlanta determines the makeup of the flu vaccine every year. You have seen the word trivalent associated with the vaccine, it simply means that it is a 3-strain vaccine. The CDC determines the three most likely strains of flu likely to cause problems and the vaccines are produced to combat those three strains.

If the strain floating around is not one of the three selected for the vaccine then the vaccine will do you no good.

Pretty much. You can walk faster than the trains run through downtown but damned if the don’t blow their horn every two seconds.

For love of all that is holy, a golf course is NOT the place to teach fundamental golf swing techniques to a beginner. That's what driving ranges are for. Holding up three groups of golfers while showing someone how to hold a golf club and address the ball is worthy of a beating. While we're on the subject, forming a fivesome when everyone in the group sucks at golf is not good etiquette. And Mr. Studman, don't play from the tips if you are incapable of driving it past the lady's tees. Good gawd, the stupid was thick out there today.

That's more around the corner on North Philips Highway.
