Tried to order groceries online for home delivery; needs a €70 order minimum. I get it past €70, they tell me they only have one of a certain product I ordered four of. I can reduce my order to just one but that would put me back under €70 again! Screw this.

High beams. Why all the high beams? Used to be that someone just forgot, now it seems like a lot of people just leave 'em on.

Technology is a great thing.   There are cars right now that will switch off the high beams when they detect another car approaching.

I drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee a couple of months ago that had this feature. IIRC, I saw this on a Cadillac back in the 70s.

Not exactly new technology..........Lincoln also had the automatic dimmer in the 70's.

That's when the manual switch was a button on the left side of the floor for all the youngsters out there.

Energy providers.

I'm currently in the process of moving house and changing my energy tariff from an 'electric only' to gas and electricity (heating is powered by gas). Now, I called my provider to switch tariffs effective 30th January.. well it seemed as though they got confused by this. Firstly they cancelled my tariff completely which effect from 4th January.. this is 5 days BEFORE I called them. Then they tell me I can't change my tariff before I move in, but in the next breath they say that changing tariffs and addresses can take up to 21 days to take effect.

Having spoken with 10 (TEN) different people over a 2 hour gruelling period, it turns out that guess what? Yep.. they could do it after all.. Hey, at least it was a Freephone number!

80% of what I talk about is nonesense.. the other 25% is made up statistics...

My '87 T-Bird had automatic dimmers too. The problem with them was 2 fold-
- on a curve, the sensor would not pick up the oncoming vehicle until it came around the turn and engaged the headlights
- when you approached a car from behind, the headlights would not dim as there was nothing to trip the sensor, you had to remember to flick them down so you wouldn't blind the guy

Make it 3 problems- a lot of lights on roadsides would trip the sensor, like a security light on a house or a bright streetlight. They were great in rural areas only.

Too much automation isn't good for drivers anyhow. It's hard enough as it is to keep many drivers off of their phones and actually driving. The more you take away, the worse it gets.

It brings me back to my days at United Airlines Operations, where pilots routinely would turn away aircraft with the autopilot deferred (not working). I thought these guys knew how to fly airplanes, not just put the landing gear up and turn on the autopilot. It used to drive me nuts, and resulted in far too many unnecessary delays of flights.
What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Hot?   My wife will ask me what the weather will be so she knows how to dress for work.   I tell her “you work in an office.  If it’s summer wear a sweater.  If it’s winter put on some short sleeves”

People who have to preface their statements with things like,

"You want to know why? I'm gonna tell you. Here's why."

Yes, if you listen to 1010xl, you know the guy who does this. He can't just make a statement without first announcing that he's going to make a statement.
