The Trivial Annoyances Thread
|
There are two major streets on my side of town, within a few blocks of each other, one call St. Johns Avenue and the other called San Juan Avenue. Well, San Juan is St. John in Spanish. It's the same name!
Besides that, "St. Johns Avenue" is misspelled. If what they meant was "the avenue that belongs to St. John," it would be "St. John's Avenue." With an apostrophe. "St. Johns River" is also misspelled. Unless, of course, they are saying it's the river that is named after two people named St. John. Because "St. Johns" is plural for St. John. It is not the possessive version of "St. John." If they want to name the river after St. John, it should be "The St. John River." |
