First off, since Trump isn't conservative it's no surprise that a conservative commentator would post a misleading and, at times, flat out wrong argument against him. Well actually, against Junior.

Secondly, here's a link from another source that doesn't block everyone who has a pop-up blocker. Clean Link You should refrain from linking the WaPo in the future since not everyone is allowed to read it.

Lastly, Krauthammer claims Russia is a "hostile power." I ask again, where is the list of which countries are officially considered "hostile" by the US government?

(07-12-2017, 11:14 AM)The Real Marty Wrote: Jesus.  Can we at least stipulate to the following facts?

Trump Jr got an email that said in part:

"This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump,"

And Trump Jr replied:

"If it's what you say I love it,"

And then he forwarded the email to Kushner and Manafort and the three of them later  attended the meeting in Trump Tower with a Russian woman lawyer who they had been told had information on Hillary Clinton.

This isn't something I'm making up.   This is Trump Jr's account of what happened.   Where's the 7 that you say I am adding?

Who did Trump Jr get the email message from?

Where was the Russian government ever involved?

Look closely how CNN "reports" this.
Quote:The younger Trump is a key player in the controversy over Russia's meddling in the 2016 election. According to emails released by Trump Jr., he met on June 9, 2016 with Natalia Veselnitskaya, a lawyer who was described to him as an emissary of the Russian government with information that was part of the country's effort to help elect his father.

Regarding the first part in bold, this really has nothing to do with "collusion", the hacking of the DNC or any Russian government "meddling" in the election.

Answer my first question above regarding the second part in bold.  Since a publicist (former tabloid "journalist") says in an email that the person is an "emissary of the Russian government" does it make it true?

Look at the New York Times headline story today where they clearly published false facts.  Here is the second paragraph from the article.

Quote:As Air Force One jetted back from Europe on Saturday, a small cadre of Mr. Trump’s advisers huddled in a cabin helping to craft a statement for the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., to give to The New York Times explaining why he met last summer with a lawyer connected to the Russian government. Participants on the plane and back in the United States debated how transparent to be in the statement, according to people familiar with the discussions.

Note how they attribute this to "people familiar with the discussions".

And now we know the truth.  They were willing to collude with a foreign power to win the election.

"...a hostile foreign power that has repeatedly invaded its neighbors (Georgia, Crimea, Eastern Ukraine), that buzzes our planes and ships in international waters, that opposes our every move and objective around the globe. Just last week the Kremlin killed additional U.N. sanctions we were looking to impose on North Korea for its ICBM test."

Krauthammer in National Review

=========================================================
The evidence is now shown. This is not hearsay, not fake news, not unsourced leaks. This is an e-mail chain released by Donald Trump Jr. himself. A British go-between writes that there’s a Russian government effort to help Trump Sr. win the election, and as part of that effort he proposes a meeting with a “Russian government attorney” possessing damaging information on Hillary Clinton. Moreover, the Kremlin is willing to share troves of incriminating documents from the Crown Prosecutor. (Error: Britain has a Crown Prosecutor. Russia has a State Prosecutor.)

Donald Jr. e-mails back. “I love it.” Fatal words.

Once you’ve said “I’m in,” it makes no difference that the meeting was a bust, that the intermediary brought no such goods. What matters is what Donald Jr. thought going into the meeting, as well as Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort, who were copied on the correspondence, invited to the meeting, and attended.

have the Trumpites not been telling us for six months that no collusion ever happened? And now they say: Sure it happened. So what? Everyone does it. What’s left of your credibility when you make such a casual about-face?

I leave it to the lawyers to adjudicate the legalities of unconsummated collusion. But you don’t need a lawyer to see that the Trump defense — collusion as a desperate Democratic fiction designed to explain away a lost election — is now officially dead.

Here are the facts as they stand right now.

  1. A British publicist who is a former tabloid writer tells Trump Jr in an email that a lawyer "connected to the Russian Government" (which was false by the way) wants to meet with him to pass on damaging information regarding Hillary Clinton.  Trump Jr agrees to meet with her and forwards an invite to some other then-campaign staffers.

  2. It was revealed as "breaking news" that at least one other person was present at the meeting.  He is being described as having ties to "Russian intelligence", even though that's not really the case.  He served in the Russian military in a unit that was part of counterintelligence but was never formally trained as a spy.  He has since obtained dual US/Russian citizenship and is a lobbyist.

  3. Both the Russian lawyer as well as the "other person" at the meeting are both active lobbyists regarding the Magnitsky sanctions.

  4. It's been said in several interviews that the focus of the meeting was regarding the Magnitsky sanctions.

  5. Some of the news networks are also breathlessly reporting that there might have been other people in the room.  Just something to keep in mind.  The Russian lawyer does not speak English which would suggest at least a translator was present.
So given the FACTS about this non-story there were no laws broken, no collusion with the Russian government, nothing... nada.  It appears that Trump Jr and company were duped into a meeting to hear from lobbyists.

This story from the AP gives a bit more detail regarding the issue.

With all due respect to Mr Krauthammer I just see how this is collusion. Correct me if I am wrong but from what I have seen a tabloid journalist falsely offered up to Jr a lawyer tied to the Russian government with dirt on Hillary. The lawyer had no ties to the Russian Government nor did she have dirt on Hillary. Where is any collusion between the Trump campaign and Putin to be seen here?

Did Trump Jr. and by extension Trump seek to gain damaging info on a political opponent? Obviously yes. Collusion here? No!

While we are at it we do have confirmed collusion in the 2016 election. The DNC colluded with Hillary Clinton to deny Bernie Sanders the democratic nomination. Where is the investigative reporting in this collusion? The irony here is had Sanders won the democratic nomination HE would most likely be president right now.

You Never Trumpers need to refocus your ire IMO.

New to using Tapatalk so pardon any shortcuts I missed.

You stated: "The fact is Donnie Jr. thought he was getting dirt on Hillary Clinton". Everything after that statement is wishful thinking and conjecture. Jr was looking and hoping for dirt on Clinton case closed. The source is irrelevant as well as the person seeking said dirt.

It is not illegal to meet with someone and hear what they have to say, not even if they are a foreign official. It is not even unethical.

Had Junior actually been given dirt on Hillary and then published it, that would be unethical, although still not illegal.

So, what we know so far is that Trump Jr was offered what he thought was a chance to collude with the Russians to get his father elected, and he jumped at the chance. Manafort and Kushner went along with him.

Legal or illegal? Moral or immoral? Ethical or unethical? Whatever.

The way this stuff keeps dribbling out, the way the Trump people keep lying and getting caught, I'm sure there will be more to this story.

What amazes me is how many people seem to be more loyal to Trump than they are to the truth, or the Republican agenda or anything else. It's like a cult.

Trump supporters dont give a damn about anything else because those other things, other than the truth but certainly including the Establishment Republican agenda, have done nothing but screw them over for 20 years. Now Trump is speaking their language and Trump's opponents turned the rhetoric up so loud that they dont care what's being said because, knowing full well what he is, they still trust him more than those speaking against him.
