Playmaking Being Coached Out of the Players

Over the last three years or so, Coach Bradley has stated numerous times that he doesn't want to coach the aggressiveness out of Blake. It appears that this may be exactly what has been happening to not only Blake, but all of our players.

It's become obvious that Blake is never going to be a game manager or low turnover player. He's been trying so hard to not throw the pick that it looks like he has become hesitant throwing the ball downfield, which is causing him to not step into his throws, mechanically breakdown, and telegraph passes - leading to even more turnovers, but without the big plays. It's no coincidence that when the team is down in the 4th quarters that he throws caution to the wind, becomes more confident, and moves the offense. He's not afraid of throwing picks when its do-or-die. Somehow he starts climbing the pocket and stepping into throws that he was double clutching earlier in the games. His rookie season he looked amazing in preseason and in relief of Henne. Then he started with a few turnovers and you could see Jed coaching the aggressiveness out of him. Last season we were down big in a lot of games and he got hot during garbage time and you could see the confidence build from there. Andy Reid hit the nail on the head with Blake in that he is like a pro golfer with the yips.

Our defense isn't losing us games, but the lack of playmaking and turnovers from the D (on top of terrible ST play) is putting the offense in awful situations where they have bad field position almost all game, every game. Every turnover by the offense is exponentially worse because of it and each is potentially game breaking. I understand the soft cover 3 and allowing the underneath passes, but it appears that our players are so risk averse to being out of position that we play on our heels going backward and anatomically out of position instead. You can't expect Poz (or even Telvin for that matter) to go from nearly stationary or backpedaling to step up and tackle a receiver crossing 5 yards in front of them, let alone make a play on the ball. Going for 6 consecutive turnover free games next week is, frankly, embarrassing and nearly impossible to win consistently.

I just feel like our playmakers are being neutered and it won't take long before that's coached into the few playmakers that we do have left.

And that is why a coaching change is needed sooner rather than later

We don't need playmakers.  Bend, don't break has worked very successfully. Why change in the middle of the season? Khan has already he's not making any changes, better to ingrain the non-playmaking mentality into the players so they're permanently stunted.

At this point..... NO.  Blake is throwing the ball with his arm and none of his lower body.  Wobbly quacking ducks with no power and drive.  When he is on the move the part of his brain running through the "how to throw the football" check list is missing and he hits the receiver.

When he is going through the mental throwing checklist he is slow, indecisive and can't even hand off the ball without it being exaggerated and taking forever.  Seriously we botched hand offs today.

Speaking of playmakers, not keen on Julius Thomas' physicality - minimum moves, effort and energy.

He appears to run semi speed, barely blocks, and catches only if the ball is absolutely there.  Often goes down instantly, strange routes too, shallow flat stuff for en peu yardage.

I don't see the value considering all that dough. Another need, a top physical tight end, especially with Lewis on his way out.

Success is a journey, not a destination.  Go all out Mighty Jaguars.

It is my belief that Blake isn't stepping into his throws because he lacks confidence and is afraid of the turnover. When he turns it lose, the offense looks good.

Our players are playing with great fear. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to fans suffering.

I agree with the sentiment of all the posts so far.  But I give the OP credit for being one of the few (if any) posts that actually tries to address what the coaching staff is doing wrong.  Even if it comes down to Blake just not putting in the work (or the right work), that still is (to a reasonable degree) on the coaching staff.  The stats they are putting out are not normal much less good.  Something is wrong.
