Meh. This season is toast anyway, can't wait for 2018.

He'll get a good practice squad spot. He won't be poached anytime soon.

Not surprising.

He just doesn't have NFL tools.

Its a subtle move by the front office to tank for the top qb in the 2018 draft,  coughlin looking to get his eli manning

You'd think a team with playoff and Super Bowl aspirations would keep Henne. Because he would probably do a better job of holding down the fort than a younger guy like Allen who is inexperienced.

And on the other side you'd think a team that is most likely going to be terrible would keep Allen. Who did have some ugly throws against Atlanta, but also had some really good plays mixed in. Clearly he has upside. Just needs more developing. And you move on when you find another guy with more upside or you become a better team needing a steady experienced pro as your backup.

Our future?

Brandon Allen is not our future. He's just another unspectacular career backup, albeit one with an intriguing enough skill set to stick around the NFL for a while. He was owned by the Falcons' eighth-string scrubs. He is not better than Bortles; he is not better than Henne. Brandon Allen is not the QB of the future. The guy we draft next year is.

It's Actually quite smart.. as they didn't release him during the first round of cuts but rather after waivers. Dave saw that most teams went with two QB's - knowing that most likely he will clear waivers if Dave wants to bring him back. He's not going anywhere even if Dave wants to keep developing him. He's not Kurt Warner

The Rams have claimed former #Jaguars QB Brandon Allen, per league source.

I felt like he had the tools to develop into a decent backup who can come in and win games. Weird move, but at end of the day means nothing.

Just Draft Rosen in round 1.
Mayfield in round 3/4.
Sign Alex Smith.

Brad Kaaya got claimed by the Panthers yesterday. This makes at least 2 QBs claimed off waivers this week. It's far from a given the Panthers and Rams will keep 3 QBs on their respective 53 man rosters if injuries at other positions pile up.

Obviously it's not just about stats.  For me it's about the two ugly picks thrown against 3rd stringers last week.
The one to the endzone was horribly placed and not a terribly difficult throw. The one to the sideline should have been tossed out of bounds. He had no business attempting that pass.

If Brandon Allen were the back-up to Bortles and ended up starting a game he'd probably throw more picks than Bortles.
He's just not ready.

Henne may suck and may neuter the offense to a degree, but he's more prepared to face a starting NFL defense than Allen is right now.

I do agree that Henne knows the offense better and he is more prepared, but it doesn't matter because he just simply sucks. We have seen it more often than we want to. I am not saying Allen will be the future but he had little chance here because Henne is on the team. Henne is just simply a mistake.
