Waiver issued so construction of border wall can begin

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a waiver to waive certain laws, regulations and other legal requirements to ensure the expeditious construction of barriers in the vicinity of the international border near Calexico, California. The waiver was published in the Federal Register today.

Perhaps we'll end the Jobs Americans Won't Do nonsense AND create a demand (ergo higher salaries) for honest manual labor. I know construction is about to boom in Florida, wouldn't it be nice if Americans had a fair playing field for gaining that work?

Some people like cheap and available labor.   Other people want less competition from Mexicans.   It depends on where you are on the economic scale.   I would say, rich people would like having Mexican labor, while poor people would not like having Mexican labor.   People who employ laborers like having Mexican labor to compete with American citizens.  Of course, this is a total generalization.   

With all the reconstruction that is going to have to be done after these hurricanes, I would think it would be a lot easier to get it all done if we let in some Mexican labor.   Unless we want to pay $30 an hour for jobs that would normally be paid $12 an hour. I wouldn't want to have the choice of paying double the normal rate for a new roof, or watching it rain in the living room for the next 6 months.

Absolutely 

I don't necessarily believe in many industries (such as coal mining) but I respect those that have worked their [BLEEP] off all of their lives to place food on the table for their family.

I'm not an honest worker it seems. As I'm browsing this and having a coffee.

I browse and post throughout the day but I also take a lot of work home with me as I negotiate contracts so it's pretty tough reviewing contracts & negotiating 8-10 hours straight throughout the day.  Definitely need mental breaks throughout so I don't feel bad doing so -- also top level performer overall so i don't feel bad posting.

Being in the construction industry, I can tell you that the labor rate is going down for construction trades...There are so many contractors bidding on jobs they have to bid very low to get the contracts...The jobs that used to pay $20 an hour are now starting at around $9...When I started in the HVAC industry I started at $17 and ended up around $22 back in the late 90's...Now they are starting around $9-$10 and the cause of this is due to smaller companies such as owner operators with 1 to 3 employees has less overhead to pay and can therefor bid much lower than large companies...I am talking specifically about new construction home building bids

Mexico wrote us a check for $12 million pesos but post-dated the check 12/31/2018 so it will be worth approximately $18,000 USD by then
