Perryman will play his first game back from IR and they have some good edge rushers with Bosa and Ingram, each have 8.5 sacks. Rivers has been a thorn in the side of all Jags fans since I can remember, but this seems like a different team......Also lets not forget the return of Gus Bradley....

This is a different Jaguars team, but Rivers has so thoroughly dominated us for so long, I won't be comfortable going against him until we actually beat him.

We have a shot on Sunday.  A good shot.  but he still scares me.  I fear him more than I ever feared Manning, and I thought Manning was a great QB.

I understand history and all. But why y’all tripping on rivers? Every year is different and for the past 9 years we’ve had horrible secondaries/coaching. We don’t this year. Rivers will be lucky to throw over 200ywrds in this game.

I'm actually more worried about Melvin Gordon than Rivers with the Jags current secondary.

I think the Jags can run the ball against the bolts well and I think they'll eclipse 150 yds on the ground in this one.

This one comes down to not making mistakes and limiting big plays by Gordon and Rivers. Outside of that - pound the rock and chew the clock.

Rivers shouldnt torch us since we have two good CB's good safeties and LB's and a great pass rush, we should worry about Gordon

Now their defense is good with the pass rush, but last week Ciny had a top 5 defense and we went right through them without Fournette, and Bortles lighting them up.

But we got the beast back to combat their pass rush

This is another game where the defense could have another 10 sack performance. If we can eliminate Melvin Gordon from getting big plays. Rivers has historically just carved us up to no end. For whatever reason we seem to make big mistakes against west coast teams. We are obviously a much better defense than we were when we last faced them. Rivers isn't mobile and needs a clean pocket to be effective. However he is smart and will get rid of the ball quickly. On the other side I'm a little worried about Ingram and Bosa. But if we can run the ball as well as we have been they become much less of an issue. We need to make Rivers feel old and think about retirement. It may be a feeling I have but I've seen every opposing QB we've faced look like they just want nothing to do with our defense. They just look defeated the entire game. Then when opportunities actually come up for them they misfire.

Putting Rivers away would be greatly cathartic for this team. Ginger from Cincy was only a start.

The chargers won’t be able to score. This defense is just too good man. Offensively it’s like watching Alabama play. It may be 6-0 midway thru the 2nd quarter but by the fourth they’ll be up 27-10. They are beating up folks and mugging them for 60 minutes. Add on top of that teams aren’t taking us serious and that just leads to a dominant performance. I’m sure the chargers are thinking they fly over here and handle us just like years past. I love it. That’s why all these teams either get upset and talk about retirement or not playing with passion lol. It’s cause they just knew they were gonna get their season back on track against the jags lol.

From what I've read and heard on the various Chargers forums, they are counting on Gus knowing the Jags personnel and defensive scheme to get an advantage. Which begs the question...How similar or different is our defense from what it was when Gus was here? It's my belief that the base defense is the same but that is where similarities stop. Didn't Walsh implement his own concepts? In any case, they have two ends that are getting sacks off of "high motor" ability, not so much technique. If the Jags offense can impose their style of play early and successfully, you can limit the ends effectiveness.

I believe this game comes down to the backs playing disciplined. Rivers is notorious for hopping and skipping around, making ridiculous (lucky) throws under duress. Contain and play disciplined on the back end and I don't see this being too close of a game honestly. They did play the Patriots tight but I think that was the Chargers best performance of the year and the Pats defense, in my opinion, isn't on the same level as the Jags.
